John Adams BLOPENS My Creative Egg Review

Reviewed by Deborah Mackenzie
Easter is approaching fast and chocolate eggs hit in the face as we go to the store. Kids eyes are bright, shining and desperate for just one, the cries of ‘please mum/dad’ ring down the aisles. BUT what do you do to control the amount of sweet, sticky chocolate we buy for them? How many times have you found that chocolate egg, with one bite taken out of it, lying on the floor (those with pets please be vigilant) and even a sickly child for having too much? Well, we have the answer to these problems, and at a price that is in a similar price range.
John Adams have ‘BLOPENS My Creative Egg’ that is colourfully packaged in a hard-plastic egg, a great storage container to keep all the contents safe once opened.
The BLOPENS My Creative Egg contains:
- 4x mini BLOPENS, red, blue, green and yellow
- 6x egg shaped design papers
- 6x egg shaped stencils

Using the BLOPENS is simple and safe; to get them ready pull off the top, turn it around so that the nib is facing down in the clear plastic tube. At the top of the coloured section of the pen has a value hole so that you can blow but not suck the ink. Now they are ready to use, let’s get to those stencils…
The 6 stencils, designs are gender friendly and are made in a thin cardboard, where you need to press out the shapes; this is great because you can press them out as you need to create a magical colourful picture, using the different colours. Mum’s and dad’s, you may be needed to help little fingers to do this so that the stencil is not broken.

Place the stencil on the paper supplied, they are the same shape and size of the stencil. Hold it in place, choose your colour, put it to your lips and blow. At first it is quite hard to the pens to start the ink to spray out in a fine mist. The harder you blow the more ink that comes out, so you can make textured looking pictures. Also, you can use the nib as a normal marker to make distinct lines around the picture.
These BLOPENS My Creative Egg art kits are the answer to so many Easter gifts; they are small enough to use in an egg hunt, they will keep dry should the heavens open. They will fit into your bag to take them with you on a journey when visiting family and friends. They also are great as they are chocolate free, so those with allergies or health problems can enjoy an egg with a difference.
Please remember to supervise your child/children when using these pens. Having a place that is protected with something like newspaper, away from walls as they can be a bit messy with the spray mist.
To remove any pen ink from hands, wash well with warm and soapy water. It may take a few washes to remove all the ink, especially if it has dried on for a while. Removing ink off clothing, leave it to soak in cold water overnight, then wash with warm water and soap. Another wash maybe necessary and to avoid discolouration follow your soap or detergent instructions.
Making pictures with these were fun, creative and we tried to make different types of spray, by adding two colours together, both by blowing using two pens. This worked great when we blew lightly; but we also put two different colour tips together to see if it would make a blended colour. It did work, but not as well as using the colours separately.
I recommend these for Easter as they have given us hours of creative play and also so many people are looking for that special chocolate free gift, I believe these ticks all the boxes.
