The JLAB JBuddies Studio wireless kids headphones are designed for children aged 6 up and are an affordable, user-friendly product. They were so easy to set up – just turn on the headphones from the power button on the left earcup, turn on the bluetooth connection on your device, locate the JLAB JBuddies Studio device, pair and away you go – very child-friendly!

One of the problems my son has with headphones is comfort, as he has a smaller head-size and often finds the headphones keep falling off. The JBuddies have a padded, adjustable headband and soft memory-like padded earcups which fit over the ear, and fit snuggling on my son’s head – enabling comfort for longer listening which is great for long car journeys or when travelling on a plane. They also fold down at the hinges into a compact, travel size, taking up less space and being able to be transported in a coat pocket.

There are several other great features of these headphones: most importantly is the safe-volume control so the sound level cannot go above 85dB, ensuring childrens’ sensitive ears aren’t damaged; the wireless connection so they can’t keep getting muddled up with the wires – this has a really good range which was great as it meant I could still use my phone to search the internet whilst my son was listening to an audiobook, from my phone, in the next room. However, if you wish to listen to a device that doesn’t have bluetooth (such as a movie on a plane or school computer) or you forget to recharge, an aux cable has also been provided and easily transitions from wireless mode to wired mode. This cable can also link the JBuddies headphones to another pair of headphones, so if you have two children, they can both listen to the same story, music or movie soundtrack together – a god-send for car journeys!

For the older children, the JBuddies also have the ability to make and receive calls, in addition to being used as a gaming comm – a must for most teenagers! The battery life is really good, with around 13 hours playtime – enough time for most travel journeys or gaming sessions.

There are a couple of drawbacks to the JBuddies headphones in that the volume controls are also the controls for play/pause and call management, which can sometimes mean that you accidentally skip a track on your story when you meant to change the volume. Additionally, the charging cable is not very long so it’s difficult to charge them whilst continuing to listen to your music/story/film. The inclusion of a pouch bag would also be a welcome addition to this product.

All in all, this is an all-round great product which is very child-friendly and has a decent sound which doesn’t distort. It has some great extra features and they perform, look and feel far more expensive than their very reasonable price of £14.99 (Amazon UK). They come in two colour choices – blue and grey or purple and grey – and the set up manual is easy to follow. These headphones would make an ideal gift for any child over 6 or any teenager who enjoys their audio output.
