Upon entering the first floor restaurant of Jimmy’s World Grill & Bar (lift available, if needed) the sounds, smells and atmosphere certainly tell you that this is a place for a good night out. We were greeted warmly and shown to our booth table. Perhaps not the best table for a party of 5 (2 adults and 3 children) but nonetheless comfortable, clean and laid out accordingly. We were told that the countless variety of food on offer consisted of Indian, Chinese, Thai, Mexican, Italian, fried chicken and English. This also included ‘live’ stations where fresh pasta and noodle dishes could be cooked up in front of you. We were advised, and I believe quite rightly, not to take too much at a time as there is so much to choose from you don’t want to miss out on anything. Just pace yourself!

We all started off by visiting the Chinese/Indian station for starters. Perhaps not a great variety but certainly the staples you’d expect. These included chicken wings, dim sum, bhajis, pakoras, fish dishes, crackers, poppadoms and crispy duck with pancakes. These were all delicious and a great introduction to other tastes to come. My son, not a very adventurous eater, went straight for the chips and then went back for more. This proves that there is definitely something for everyone.

Next up was to try the beef fajita (other choices include chicken, chili beef and vegetarian). Once the main part is chosen you can select from all sorts of fillings to build up the tortilla. It’s then folded and placed on a sort of toasted sandwich maker to heat it up. Maybe not too authentic, but mouth-watering all the same.

The children, at this point, decided on pasta with a vegetable/tomato sauce. Again, not too adventurous, however, they did enjoy it.

So on to try the Indian main course of Butter Chicken. Again, a very tasty dish but perhaps a little too spicy for my taste. For those people trying to be healthy don’t be put off by the amount of ‘naughty’ dishes available as there is plenty of fresh salads, fruit and sushi to choose from. Also, the fact that you are walking around the restaurant between courses could make you think that you are burning the calories off at the same time as putting them on!

If you have any room after sampling the cuisine so far then it’s on to the dessert buffet. The highlight of this is the ‘live’ ice cream Teppanyaki station. For those of you not familiar with this it is quite a simple idea. Choose from several flavours of ice cream (I chose strawberry and vanilla) and then select some accompaniments, e.g. white chocolate buttons, minstrels, mini eggs and then watch the chef smash and chop it up in front of you. The result is a deliciously sweet combination that you created yourself! As well as this treat several other cakes, sweets and jellies are also available to pile on your plate, as well as a chocolate fountain, which was a big hit with the children!

The staff were very attentive and although they are not serving your food (that defeats the object) they are there to bring your drinks and clear the plates after every course. Also, to ensure your experience is a happy one and explain anything you are not sure about.

Overall, a great sociable night out for parties, family nights and a gathering of friends and I think one we will repeat again soon.

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
