My husband and I attended Buxton Opera House to conduct a review of Jason Donovan & His Amazing Midlife Crisis Tour.

It was a show where Jason chatted about his life experiences the low and high points. His early days in neighbours and the road his life has taken. Jason opened the show by saying in the past he has been too young, too busy/confused to be able to make sense his life. He said now he is approaching his fiftieth birthday he believes he is in the right place to finally to put my life into perspective.

He stated that he is in a great place at the moment surrounded by his loving wife and three children. His 86 year father who has been a strong icon during his career. He said he is in a good place and he is very happy with his life.

He talked the audience through his life from neighbours, his solo singing career, Priscilla, his drug ordeal, Joseph, Annie Get Your Gun, The Rocky Horror Show, sound of music and The King’s Speech. He was open and honest when running through his experiences, it was emotional, funny and eye opening.

At the point of meeting his wife whilst working on The Rocky Horror and the subsequent birth of his first daughter he forced himself re-evaluate his life. He then embarked on reality TV programmes I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! and Strictly Come Dancing. Jason re-found his love of performing with leading roles. He toured the UK in the highly acclaimed play The King’s Speech.

On the set he showed off his memorable clothing and the original skateboard he used when playing Scott Robinson in Neighbours.

I found it sad when he explained one of his major low points which was the deterioration of his voice and how this made him feel. It was clear from the tour that he has not allowed this to hold him back and he is coming out fighting. He seems very content with where he is and the direction his life has taken. He made it clear he still has aspirations, one of those being he would love to do Chicago.

Although his voice was not up to scratch he still sang a few favourites; 10 Good Reasons, Any Dream Will Do, to name a couple.

All Jason fans will love this tour – get yourselves along.
