Ion8 Pod Leakproof Water Bottle Review

Reviewed by Louise Totton

I think it’s fair to say that I have a bit of an obsession with buying drinks bottles. We have absolutely loads of them in our house, in varying colours, types of plastic, sizes and design; I just don’t seem to be able to help myself when I see them in the shops. So, I was really pleased when I was asked to ty out the Ion8 Pod drinks bottle.

The Ion8 Pod is genuinely different to any of the other drinks bottles that we have. First of all, the Pod is small. It is the same diameter as a standard drinks can, and pretty similar in capacity. The Pod is available in 11 different colours – three with child-friendly prints and 8 different solid colours. I was sent the Rose Quartz option, which is a pale baby pink colour. The bottle has a strap/handle made of strong webbed fabric, which is not removable. Where this bottle really differs from the others though is the top. It does not have a sports cap, like most water bottles do – it is a free-flow design, so the leakproof aspect comes from the lid. A transparent coloured lid (which is colour coordinated to match the rest of the bottle) covers the spout and incorporates a silicone bung to stop any leaks. There is a plastic latch that holds the lid in place, and once the latch is undone, a press of the button pops the lid up on a hinge.

I really liked this bottle. This size seems to be aimed at young children, and I do think it would be great for this age range, but it is also a really good size to fit into a handbag. Because it is the same size as a drinks can, it also fits really well in the drinks holder in my car, and doesn’t topple or get in the way of gear changes.

The range of colours means that it can be just as suitable for an adult as it is for a child, and I think the Rose Quartz version that I was sent looks really classy. The bottles have a lovely matt finish and are semi-opaque so look like frosted glass. I’m absolutely delighted with it and I can confirm that it has stayed totally leak-free, in spite of being left to roll around in the bottom of my handbag. The bottle claims to be dishwasher safe, but I haven’t been able to try this out as I don’t have one. It is really easy to keep clean though and doesn’t have any nooks and crannies that make it difficult to get clean.

At £8.99, this isn’t the cheapest bottle out there, but its also not the most expensive. I think the price is good as this is a quality and classy looking bottle, which really does as it claims and doesn’t leak. It would make a great addition to any days out with the kids over the Easter holidays, as you could be assured that it wont leak all over the picnic and cause soggy sandwiches!
