Now, here’s what lovely Kellie Tannahill from Coaching with Kellie Tannahill Ltd had to say…
How and when did your business start?
I started my business in 2022 while I was working full-time as a business consultant. During lockdown, I discovered the art of coaching and how it transformed the actions my business partners were taking in my employed role. I achieved my qualification and discovered it was my natural leadership style. Business owners generally create their businesses to have more time or money, or because they don’t want to work a nine-to-five job for someone else. With years of business consultancy under my belt, I sought to create my own version of freedom while guiding business owners to grow their own businesses using business planning and mindset strategies. I now guide business owners to create more time, money, and energy to grow their business and live the life they want by prioritizing to prosper.
What have been your biggest challenges in business?
Balancing all the elements of my life that are important to me, like being available for my seven-year-old son, spending time with my family, growing my business, and making sure I look after myself and those around me, has been challenging. I am autistic, a recovering people-pleaser, and have complex health conditions. Previously in my employed career, I navigated life in hypervigilance with little concern for my own wellbeing. I believe the business owner’s health is paramount to the growth of their business. Strategy and mindset will only get you so far; health and lifestyle are intertwined with business growth, and all bases should be covered to excel.
What tips would you give to anyone thinking about starting their own business?
My tips for someone thinking about starting their own business would be to pay attention to those who have previously been on the journey you are about to embark on. Friends and family mean well, but if they haven’t achieved what you are striving to do, they aren’t best placed to offer you advice or guidance. They see the world from their lens, and in my years of business consultancy, business owners learn best from their peers. Of course, there will be differences in everyone’s journey, but business owners know their business best, and often we can have blind spots. Coaches or mentors are there to shine a light on things that may not have been considered, then it is up to the owner to choose whether they apply them to their business or not. It is all a choice.
What is the best thing about being in Maddy Alexander-Grout’s Invisible to Influential membership?
Maddy’s group, while teaching you visibility, which is very much needed for people to know, like, and trust your business brand, personally allows me to learn and understand how neurodivergent business owners operate. As a neurodivergent myself, without any specific qualifications in this area, I have my lived experience with what tools and techniques work for myself and some of my neurodivergent clients. I don’t market my business to neurodivergent people, but like attracts like. The more time I spend in Maddy’s world, the more I understand what can be helpful, not only for myself but for my clients as well. I am always evolving, and so are my clients, so Maddy’s wealth of knowledge in this area and the community she has built allows people to feel understood, supported, and inspired to own their truth unapologetically. Very few like to be told what to do; I don’t offer advice to my clients. We explore what they want to achieve, and I guide them on that journey to achieve it their way, with their business. I offer an unbiased view for business owners; I can see things they might miss and offer insights that may not have been considered, while holding the business owner to account, keeping them on the path they have set out with minimal distractions along the way, because we can all get distracted at times.
Have there been any recent wins that you would like to tell us about?
Watching my clients achieve in their business is what matters most to me. I love seeing how they achieve what we discuss in sessions, how we take an idea and see it grow and develop in their business. Recently, one of my clients has been working on getting his company to net zero by 2050. At a recent update, I learned that he had accelerated through his actions so quickly that he was off to India in February, six months ahead of schedule. If the ideas come from the decision maker, they act much quicker than if they are told they should do something; they take it and run with it.
With my 1:1 clients, I also offer remote support out of session for when things come up, as in business, they regularly do. One of my clients recently went from thinking they were going to lose funding from an investor to gaining six months further funding all inside of one morning. The remote support allows them to check in with who they want to be and how they want to react in situations to allow them to achieve what they want in their business.
The most rewarding part of coaching my clients is when they utilize the tools to support themselves. As part of my continuous professional development, I was so pleased to hear that one of my clients believes they are now more emotionally intelligent than before in the face of most aspects of dealing with clients. Coaching has helped with their state of mind in customer outreach, giving a lot of credit for some of the later clients that were won to coaching by way of staying on track with cold calls and making sure they were in the right frame of mind during the process.
Do you have anything exciting coming up that you would like to tell us about?
I have slots available to take on more one-to-one clients in January, and until the 31st of December, I am offering a discount code for any sessions booked. We work remotely online to help you create more time, money, or energy so you can have the life you want. If you would like to avail of this offer, please book a discovery call and quote “25%OFF” as your discount code.
Which activities do you enjoy doing in your leisure time?
In my leisure time, I value moments spent with family and friends. Walking our dog by the sea allows me to connect with nature, which helps me stay grounded and grateful for the blessings in my life.
Additionally, I am an active member of my son’s school PTA. We organize fundraising events to create enriching experiences for the children and to purchase much-needed equipment for our small, rural integrated school.
Balancing these activities with my professional responsibilities is crucial for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. It not only rejuvenates me but also enriches my personal and community life, fostering a sense of fulfillment and well-being.
