Have you ever wondered how Elizabethans lived, why they threw their waste out of the windows or why they wore the clothes with detachable sleeves? Well now you can find the answers to these questions and more in If You Were Me and Lived In… Elizabethan England by Carole P. Roman.

Carole P. Roman is a prolific children’s author who was penned over 35 children’s books and received over 100 awards. Books include the Captain No Beard series and the very educational If You Were Me and Lived In… series so I was delighted when I received the If You Were Me and Lived in… Elizabethan England for review, this instalment features past civilisations rather than countries.

Having read all of the If You Were Me and Lived In… country series, aimed at younger children, this new addition to the series seems to be aimed at an older children and is jam packed with more information.

If You Were Me and Lived In… Elizabethan England takes us back to when Queen Elizabeth I ruled England, England was becoming an emerging superpower exploring the world discovering new lands and art & literature was on the rise giving way to people like William Shakespeare.

16th Century Elizabethan England was a very different place to what we know today and this book covers a plethora of facts from wealth, class systems, housing and religion and the back of the book features pages with famous people from the Elizabethan era and a glossary with pronunciation of some of the English words used.

Its 50 pages are packed with a wealth of information and feature beautiful illustrations by Paula Tabor. It is a great educational read which not only deliver the facts but deliver them in an easy to read and understand manner with humour.

If You Were Me and Lived In… Elizabethan England is written in a way children will understand without getting bored or overwhelmed with “boring” facts and sees them learning without reading dry history books. A great introduction to learning about old civilisations. Kids, parents and teachers will love it.
