I wasn’t sure how big the HoMedics Illumi Hot Cold Beauty Treatment Device would be, but on opening the box, it’s actually a really nice handheld size item; it fits perfectly in your hand. It’s a smooth white device with a cool, silver metal section which is the area that provides the cool and heat source. You can have this either on the cold only function, the hot only function or there is an option for it to do both in an alternating fashion. The on/off switch is in the middle of the device with a ring of lights around it, when you are in the cold mode half of the ring turn blue, when you are in the hot mood, the other half turns red. When you in the alternating mode, both of the lights are in at the same time.
The box includes the device, the USB charging lead, storage pouch, leaflet on how to turn the device one, and storage bag. There was no plug, but to be honest, all households have at least one USB charging plug these days.
There are some descriptions on the reverse of the box, I couldn’t find a useful leaflet inside which fully described which function was best for what skin complaint, just information on how to turn it on really.
I have been using the cool only function for my tired puffy eyes, and then the alternating setting on my cheeks/jawline where I have blotchy, spotty skin to try and aid my lotions and potion to penetrate my skin.
It really is very easy to use so anyone can benefit from it, even those that may have weak wrists as the device is very lightweight, and the button that is quite firm to press.
You can’t really use this incorrectly as it beeps when you need to swap sides and switches off once you have completed the treatment.
In terms of effectiveness, I haven’t used it long enough to see amazing benefits, but the cooling setting did feel very cooling on my undereyes. My husband gave it a go too and liked the cooling setting too. He used it straight after I did and we found that the device itself became every hot so it may need a bit of a gap between the set cycles.
Occasionally, I suffer from achy wrists and I think the hot setting would help to soothe that pain but I haven’t needed to use it for that purpose yet.
It is quite pricey at £79.99 RRP, but if it does reduce puffy eyes, and helps my skin absorb my active creams more which so looks like it is doing, it will definitely be worth it. I guess time will tell.
