When a large box of Haribo goodies arrived in the post today our 11 year old son was suitably excited and jumping up and down to have a look. With an operation looming I haven’t been out shopping much lately so hadn’t seen many of the latest festive Haribo offerings.
We couldn’t wait to see what was in the boxes and soon started unpacking, the parcel was full to the brim, Haribo must have been busy this Year!
The box contained an Advent calendar, some selection boxes of different types & sizes, large and smaller cracker shaped ones and two bags of Christmas themed sweets. My eyes were immediately drawn to the festive sweets and my son’s to the Advent calendar so we opened these two first. We were a couple of days into the Advent, so the calendar got opened straight away, but first it was spirited away to the downstairs cupboard as it glows in the dark!
The Haribo Advent calendar is a really generous size, way bigger than a standard one, and very brightly decorated with a traditional Christmas market. The snow covered stalls are back with a Ferris wheel and lots of smiling shoppers.
Containing 300g of Haribo sweets the calendar has varying different door sizes up to No 24 for Christmas Eve. Flicking the calendar over to the back you can see the 10 different sweets included behind the doors, however that doesn’t deter from getting a surprise everyday as you don’t know which sweets are behind which door. They are mainly mini 10g bags but there are also some wrapped packs of Maoam chews and tubes. From cola bottles to frogs, gummi bears to festive jelly shapes there is something for every sweet lover. I was impressed by this calendar; the little packs of sweets are a nice little treat for after school and make a change from chocolate.
Something new I hadn’t seen before were Elf Surprises, coming in both pocket sixed bags and a 120g cracker shaped box, these are a limited edition just for Christmas. Like the other sweets, although bright they contain no artificial colours, Elf Surprises are suitable for vegetarians too, so make a great alternative to some of the treats out there. The surprise is although they look very similar, they could be sweet or could be sour. I liked both so I was happy with either!
Another item in the parcel was the Haribo Sharing Medley selection box. Weighing in at 480g this is a box for a family gathering or film night. The box contains six large 80g bags of everybody’s favourite Haribo’s and a sharing tray to tip them into. Jelly Babies, Rhubarb & Custard Zing and Tangfastics are some that are included in the selection and also my personal favourite, Giant Strawbs. Whilst the sharing tray is a good idea, I’m not sure the bags will last long enough to get emptied out!
There was also a smaller standard size 182g selection box containing 6 of Haribo’s most popular sweets such as Super Mix & Starmix, and an activity sheet (rrp £2.50) perfect for secret Santa, and a Haribo 120g Starmix Christmas cracker style box (rrp £1.50) which would make a great stocking filler.
For those that really love their sweets, or those that like to make them last ages, like my son, there is the Haribo Megastars large 800g mixed box, containing four 200g bags of different sweets, Starmix, Tangfastics, Supermix & Giant Strawbs (rrp £5.00).
From small special treats such as the limited edition Elf Surprises to the huge Megastars box there is something for every budget and taste. The Haribo Christmas range shows they are much more than just a party bag treat. The Advent Calendar in particular, I thought was excellent as a different treat for the children in your family this Christmas.
