“Goodbye grey skies, hello blue” pretty much sums up the feel of this show. As we entered The Lowry we left dreary grey Manchester behind and were transported to the blue skies of Milwaukie in the 50’s.
Everyone remembers the iconic television show Happy Days even me a young’un. Who can forget the catchy theme song, the lovable characters and the friendly upbeat nature! Well if you loved the original show you need to get yourself on down to the Lowry to see the iconic show brought to life onstage.
Happy Days has an all-star cast that sing and dance their way through a lively action packed show. The show centres around a small town diner and features the All-American family “The Cunninghams” and their uber cool live in lodger Arthur Fonzerelli (better known as The Fonz).
The Fonz is played by former Emmerdale star Ben Freeman, he is cool, has the swagger and his accent is top notch, but unfortunately his singing accent isn’t the best – he will still have you singing along though!
For me the absolute star of the show was Pinky Tuscadero played by the downright sexy Heidi Range (Ex member of the Sugababes) she just nails the role and plays the pin up with effortless style. As for her voice WOW I actually got Goosebumps. She certainly got the biggest round of applause of the night.
The story itself is quite a basic one but who needs Shakespeare when you’re having fun. The show is centred on Arnold’s which is under threat of being demolished if they don’t raise $5000 by the end of the week. Queue lots of hair brained antics, camaraderie and shed loads of fun but do they save Arnolds… go and see it to find out.
Overall this show definitely deserves two thumbs up, would I go and see it again – most definitely yes.
Tickets cost from £30 to £57 (includes £2 booking fee).
Happy Days is at The Lowry until Saturday 28 June 2014. For more information or to book tickets click here or call the box office on 0843 208 6000.
