HAPEs Penguin Musical Wobbler is suitable from 6 months plus meaning that our son was a little too young for this, but we thought it would be an epic sensory toy for him to explore during his younger months. I cannot wait to see how he interacts with it from that time given his joy at it currently!

The toy arrived in a very securely packaged box within this was the toy which was in another box, not particularly environmentally friendly and the company may wish to think about this in future when sending out their products although if you aren’t an eco-warrior like myself this may not matter to you! The packaging was quite plain and boring so there was not much of an aesthetic to it and had it been in the shops I guess I would’ve walked by this little gem without a second thought.

The website provides the following information on it’s height and weight.

Category Infant Music

Package size L: 15.5, W: 9.5, H: 18 cm

The toy itself is rather heavy and going forward I think a 6 month old would need to be heavily supervised when playing with it as although it would be too heavy for them to lift, a knock from this would be enough to cause a mark. Of course, it is weighted for the purpose of enabling the ‘wobble’ function of the toy, which it does well. The toy moves back and forth and side to side but needs a good whack to do so, something little hands may struggle with. This means that the little wings don’t really move side to side without some assistance.

Colour wise, the product is of high contrast meaning that my little one was fascinated and giving it great big baby smiles, hopefully this means he was super pleased with the product, and it wasn’t just windy ones! I feel that the toy looks very friendly and child appeasing, and it provided my son with a lot of happiness. I am a big fan of penguin toys and we have quite a few, but this is one of my favourites!

The product has a lovely jingly sound to it when knocked and I should imagine once it is knocked from side to side by a baby it will provide hours of entertainment. Our son was entertained by the noise and was trying to decide where it was coming from for a long time before becoming tired- as new-borns do!

Overall I think that the toy meets all of its functions and will provide stimulation for our 6 week old as he grows and develops. As a parent who is a fan of sensory toys I have added this to our toybox for when we have our sensory sessions to help my son to learn new sounds and enjoy new colours.

Rating: I would give it a solid 4/5.
