I was like a kid in a sweet shop choosing a variety of wine for myself to sample from the Halfwine Company who specialise in half sized bottles of wine (375ml). The half bottle is a neat idea, anybody who drinks wine can know there’s a fair difference between drinking one bottle or two. Or if attending a dinner party, and not knowing the preference of the host, it would be good to take a variety to suit different palates.

I ‘think’ I know my wines, well white wine anyway, I am not partial to red or rosé, so with this in mind I chose 4 different white wines from the site. Villa Maria, New Zealand, a 2012 Sauvignon Blanc, Cabert, an Italian pinot grigio from 2013, Tyrrell’s Wine an Australian Oaked Chardonnay from 2011 and Macon Villages, Louis Jadot – a French Unoaked Chardonnay from 2013.

I received my package, and was pleasantly surprised to see I would be requiring the use of my fancy corkscrew which has been gathering dust for some time since most supermarket wines these days favour a screw top. It was actually nice to have some corked wine.

I had to stagger my sampling of the wine for obvious reasons. I made sure they were chilled before consuming, as this is how white wine should be served. Wine is of course is of course perfect to accompany a nice meal. It is hard to say which I preferred as they were all lovely wines, I personally like a dry white wine, with Pinot Grigio being the driest, and Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay being medium dry. I did have a feeling that I’d been around the world on my wine journey, as grapes from different countries always have a slightly different taste.

Bottles of 4 are available in Tasting Packs starting from £28.95, where you can choose a mix of red and white, or different countries etc…  You can also do a monthly subscription from £34.95 per month. I would definitely recommend the site to wine lovers who appreciate a nice wine and not just your 4 quid bottle of supermarket plonk. Even the bottles themselves are much more pleasing on the eye.

I would definitely recommend this company, and give their wine a big 5/5 thumbs up.
