I recently had the pleasure of attending the Grease production at Theatre Royal, Nottingham with a friend, and it was a fabulous show. From the moment the curtain rose, the energy in the theatre was palpable, and I was instantly transported back to my childhood memories of watching the iconic film. The production did a remarkable job of capturing the essence of the original while adding its own unique flair.

The talent on display was nothing short of astounding. Both Marley Fenton, who played Danny, and Hope Dave, who portrayed Sandy (I love her voice!), delivered exceptional performances. They brought a fresh yet familiar energy to their roles that resonated deeply with the audience. Fenton’s charismatic portrayal of Danny was spot-on, and Dave’s rendition of Sandy was both heartfelt and powerful. Their singing and acting were top-notch, and they led the cast with undeniable presence.

But it wasn’t just the leads who shone; the entire cast was brimming with talent. The Pink Ladies and the Burger Palace Boys brought vibrancy and fun to the stage, and every member contributed to the dynamic atmosphere of the show. The ensemble performances, especially during the larger musical numbers, were a joy to watch. The choreography, masterfully crafted by the legendary Arlene Phillips, was one of the standout aspects of the production. The dance numbers were executed with precision and enthusiasm, and you could see the hard work and dedication that went into every move.

The music, of course, was another highlight. The live orchestra was simply fantastic, providing flawless accompaniment to the singers on stage. Each iconic song was performed with passion, and the range displayed by the cast was impressive. Classics like “You’re the One That I Want” and “Summer Nights” had the audience singing along, and the Megamix at the end of the show was a brilliant touch that got everyone on their feet, clapping and dancing. It was a perfect way to end the night, leaving everyone with a smile on their face.

The production quality was also top-notch, with the set design and scenery changes executed seamlessly by the hardworking backstage crew. Each transition was smooth and well-timed, contributing to the overall flow of the show.

The Theatre Royal itself added to the experience, with its central location making it easily accessible, especially with the nearby tram stop. We were seated in the stalls, which provided an excellent view of the stage—close enough to feel the energy but far enough back to take in the full scope of the performance.

Overall, Grease at Theatre Royal is a must-see production that I highly recommend. Whether you’re a long-time fan of the film or new to the story, one thing I noticed was the age range of people that came to the show, from young to old. It was wonderful to see such a diverse audience enjoying the show, proving that Grease truly has timeless appeal.

With outstanding performances and incredible music, it deserves a nearly 5-star rating from me as I will say I couldn’t hear everything clearly as I would have liked but I don’t know whether that’s just me as people were laughing at times when I’d missed it! Anyway don’t miss your chance to experience this delightful trip down memory lane!
