A Glasgow Kiss is a show not to be missed, this show is sure to sell out! I haven’t laughed so hard watching a show. In between the laughter, the music has you toe tapping, hand clapping and singing along to well-known songs.

David Carswell from Gourock who wrote Glasgow Kiss, previously had two other hits on stage with PORNO and The Tommy Burns Story. According to the Greenock Telegraph, Carswell did think at first to make it a stage show a Simple Minds musical. I am pleased he changed his mind as Glasgow Kiss included so many fantastic hits from those who have a connection to Glasgow. These included Simple Minds, Primal Scream, Texas, AC/DC and many more. Don’t worry if these names aren’t familiar to you, once to hear the songs you will definitely know them.

Glasgow Kiss synopsis is a sweet romance that lasts the test of time. A young guy James (Stephen Arden) leaves his hometown to follow his dreams in the corporate world and rises to the top, but without his love. Twenty years later he returns home for a family funeral and bumps into he first love Katie, with the encouragement of his family and friends they reconnect.

This play included many different life choices of those around us, how fantastically these people blend in. In such a small cast of characters I found it interesting that this show covered huge topics of suicide, coming out as gay and the lovely karaoke singer in drag. It was refreshing that these roles were just accepted and fitted in perfectly to the story line.

My favourite scene was when James’ friend from London came up to the funeral and spoke like he had marbles in his mouth. The hilarious way in which they ‘ragged’ him and how he was like an alien from outer space. After a quick explanation to him about how in Glasgow people used insults as acceptance, and after a few drinks he tried to do the same sort of banter only for it to fall flat.

Another scene where James proclaims his love for Katie and expects her to up and move with him to New York; how often do people take it for granted that love is enough for the other person to leave everything to go with leaving everything. It’s cleverly put together with humour and song which seemed to turn the hurt away from how gut wrenching a breakup like this can be.

The Pavilion Theatre, opened in 1904 and is a rainbow of colour outside calls people in. This building has not been altered much throughout the years, so it is important when booking to mention if you have any walking difficulties. We sat in the balcony, which is up a lot of steps, the seats are on a steep incline looking down on the stage. It is a fantastic view but for those who have a height phobia are not going to like being that high up.

My rating is 5/5 for this show; a typical love story with so many songs that are linked with Glasgow and its unique banter. Please Note: Strong language
