If you’re looking for a theatre experience that’s spine-chilling and exhilarating, then Ghost Stories is the show for you! Unlike anything else I’ve seen at the theatre; this performance keeps you on the edge of your seat. Created by The League of Gentlemen’s Jeremy Dyson, and Andy Nyman, co-creator of Derren Brown’s television and stage shows, Ghost Stories is a truly unique experience.
The tension builds from the moment the lights dim, with the eerie atmosphere growing steadily throughout the performance. But it’s not all doom and gloom Ghost Stories has the perfect balance of suspense, thrills, and just the right amount of fun. The laughter and screams echoing through the theatre create an atmosphere that’s both unnerving and delightfully thrilling.
One of the standout features of the show is the sheer amount of tension it manages to generate. There is a real sense of unease that lingers in the air, keeping you on high alert the whole time. The use of lighting and sound is particularly effective, adding an extra layer of creepiness that has you constantly questioning what’s around the corner.
The cast are brilliant. Each performer brings their character to life with such authenticity that you can’t help but be drawn into their experiences, ensuring that the tension never lets up.
The stage settings are also fantastic. The clever use of set design creates the perfect atmosphere for a spooky night of ghost stories. The spaces feel creepy and unsettling, drawing you into a world where anything could happen.
The Festival Theatre is the perfect venue for this kind of modern, suspense-filled drama. The theatre is spacious, clean, and well-maintained, with a few bars and café to choose from, making it easy to grab a drink or quick bite before the show. Located right in the city centre, it’s surrounded by a host of bars and restaurants, so if you’re planning on making a night of it, you’ll have no shortage of options for food and drinks. There is easy access via public transport, and surrounding parking although it can be a little tricky finding a space, especially on busy nights.
Ghost Stories isn’t for the faint-hearted, though. The show contains moments of extreme tension and unsettling scenes that might make you jump out of your skin. It’s a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat kind of experience that is best enjoyed by those who love a good fright. A warning is given that it’s unsuitable for anyone under the age of 15.
In conclusion, Ghost Stories is literally a thrilling night at the Theatre. That will creep you out, make you laugh and talk about it all the way home. I would definitely recommend it to those that like a good scare and give it a thrilling 5 out of 5 stars.
