With lockdown easing and more time being spent outside with the family this picnic lunch bag couldn’t have come at a better time for our family day trips out. It arrived quickly, was packaged in a recyclable brown bag, covered in a lovely Frugi design, with a biodegradable clear plastic bag to protect the lunch box on the inside. All the packaging can be recycled in your home recycling so nothing is wasted.
Frugi was founded in 2004 and on its 10th anniversary they received the Queens Award for Enterprise. Following on in 2016 they were also included in the Sunday Times ‘Ones to Watch’ list. They sell clothing from babies to children and even maternity and nursing clothes. As well as backpacks, reusable bottles, stationery and fabric. I have bought their baby clothes for my children but this is the first time I have used any of their other products.
The design of the lunch bag is inspired by Indian runner ducks, who like to run not waddle. It is bright, bold and eye catching for young children and a perfect handle length for them to carry the bag. The bag is made from 100% recycled polyester and the inside has an additional reflective foil lining to help keep food cool. It measures 22cm x 21cm x 14cm approximately and has one main compartment with 2 outside elasticated pockets which are perfect for carrying your drinks bottles.
It was lovely to see that they were promoting that the lunch bag was made from recycled plastic bottles. Although my children are too young to understand what this means, as a parent I would be drawn to this when shopping as you can see instantly that you are helping to reduce the plastic waste problem we are currently facing.
I found that the bag was the perfect size to take all the food that we needed for our children’s lunch on our family days out plus it was also perfect for my lunch on a rare day out without the children. I added a small freezer block into the bottom of the bag to keep the food cool which fit perfectly laid down.
This lunch bag would be ideal for day trips out as well as being used during holidays/camping/caravan trips as it is flexible material so it can be folded down to fit into smaller areas. The only thing I felt was missing was a storage strap so that you can fasten it to lie it flat for storing. It’s not essential but I have had this on previous lunch bags and I found it quite handy.
I would personally recommend this product and so would my children. My eldest loves the design and it’s been lovely to see them taking control of carrying it (one less thing for mummy to carry!).
If you’d like to co-ordinate your clothes/accessories there are a number of items you can add from backpacks to food flasks coats and baby bibs that all match the picnic lunch bag too. I’m already planning what I’d like to add to our collection.
RRP: £18.00 (editor’s note – currently on sale at the price of £12.60 at the time of putting the review online)
