Firebox Slush Puppie Machine Review

Reviewed by Paul Magnan

I am a 40 something year old big kid who is nostalgic about my youth. Having a slush puppie was a real treat and I look back fondly on those times. I was therefore very excited to be offered my own Slush Puppie machine to review. It arrived very quickly, well packaged in perfect condition. I could not wait to get it unpacked and no I don’t have the excuse that my grandchildren were over.

In the box was the Slush Puppie machine and power lead, 4 cups and straws. I was also sent a bottle of blue raspberry syrup, available on the Firebox website for £5.99. A bottle of cherry syrup is available at a cost of £5.99.

I always tend to keep ice in the freezer, so I didn’t have to wait for the ice to freeze. The only other ingredient needed was table salt which most people would tend to have around their home. I was a little bit apprehensive that I might be able to taste the salt at this stage. What I love most about this gadget is that it’s got the same retro look as slush puppie machines back in my childhood. The raspberry flavour is still blue and the cherry flavour red. I can remember myself and my friends all sticking out our tongues to see how blue or red they were. I did the same as a 40 something year old adult now.

Whilst so far, I have stuck to making slushies, I think this will be a fantastic gadget to make iced coffees and frozen cocktails. I will likely be trying this out over the festive period when family visit. I do love popping to the shop on a weekend evening and buying a vodka miniature sized bottle and putting it into my ready-made slushie.

I will be using this Slush Puppie Machine all year round. I think that its use wouldn’t just be limited to periods of warmer weather. Whilst my grandchildren have not tried out the drinks made from it yet, I know they will love them and from a frugal point of view I think that it will work out much cheaper than buying them a Slush Puppie out locally.

It looks fantastic on my kitchen worktop. It can be easily stored away in a cupboard in between use and does not take up too much space.

If there was to be one minor negative, it would be the noise of the blades crushing the ice, but then again you would expect this from any blender type gadget anyhow and so I won’t be lowering the rating given to this fantastic product.

This Slush Puppie machine is fantastic and versatile, whether you use it to give your children/grandchildren that retro treat you enjoyed in your youth or whether you use it to make some tipples for an evening at home.

I will have to rate it 5/5 and I would give it more marks if I could.  So many people have said to me that they would love one.
