As the lockdowns and restrictions are easing, this house is cautiously thinking towards the next school year and being there in person rather than on a zoom call.  One aspect of getting ready to go back to school, and it’s always been a big one for me, is stationery! Who doesn’t love the feeling of brand new stationery to start the academic year.

My daughter writes and draws all the time and as she heads to big school for the first time, these items from Beatrix Potter by Enesco will be adored and used in equal measure.

When the pencil case and charm pen arrived I thought they had made a mistake or maybe I had ordered something and forgotten because the box was rather large.  Everything could go into the recycling bin but did feel like it was slightly wasteful.  The pencil case and pen each came in their own small plastic packaging. The shipping speed was relatively quick which is becoming more of a prerequisite of mine, after all we seem to want things yesterday.

The pen is lightweight, which is suitable for little hands and fingers as well as grown up hands alike.  It writes really well, it glides over the paper without leaving blobs on the page; the ink is black. It is styled with union jack flags which repeat around the whole pen, interspersed with little Peter Rabbits.  This pen has a little charm dangling from the top, it is a union jack backdrop with Peter rabbit in front of it.  This charm was a huge hit with my daughter, she has never written with a charm pen before and this made her feel like a ‘big girl’.  The pen is a retractible pen, it has probably already been clicked by my daughter more times than the company tested it before manufacture.  I am pleased to say it is a well made pen and has passed our test.

The pencil case has a lovely, touchable soft canvas feel to it, the outer is made from 100% cotton and you really can tell.  I remember years ago having very plastic feeling pencil cases which didn’t last long into the first term, this looks like it will last well beyond the academic year.  The pencil case has the same pattern as the pen, a union jack with Peter Rabbit stood in front of it.  The design is on both sides, again adding to the quality of the product and making this stand out from other pencil cases which can have the design on one side leaving the back plain.  Again, quality control (my daughter) have tested the zip and stitching beyond their usual limits by opening and closing the zip repeatedly and stuffing the pencil case with every small object she can lay her hands on.  It is very well made.

As she will be going to school, I feel it is important for her to have things around her that she loves.  We love Peter Rabbit in our house and I feel like it is a timeless design and also a unisex design.  Definitely a must have for their school bag come September.

Speaking of timeless, I visited their website and found so many little items which reminded me of my own childhood.  Classics like this are enjoyed by children and adults of any age, I will definitely be heading back here before Christmas time although they do have an offer on at the moment for some Christmas gifts!! I also learnt a lot about Beatrix Potter from their website, it is a lovely read.
