This winter why not go Ice Skating in the shadow of the London Eye at Eyeskate.
On Sunday 20th November 2011 we visited EyeSkate the outdoor ice rink at the London Eye in Westminster on London’s Southbank.
We were greeted by very friendly, helpful staff where we exchanged our shoes for ice skates (hire included in ticket price). It is a 300 metre square ice rink with views of the River Thames and the famous London Eye. If you want some great slip sliding family fun and pretend you are the next Torvil or Dean then get down to the Southbank and let the fun begin.
For younger skaters there are bright orange stabilising seals to help them keep their balance and enjoy skating around the ice and help them gain confidence (I could have done with one myself). Alternatively the child can sit on the seal while you push them around the ice. There are staff on the ice to help with your skating, helping you up should you fall and giving tips on how to skate.
Each session on the ice lasts 45 minutes and the 9 year old in our party did not want to get off and wanted to stay all day. It was her first time ice skating and once she got the hang of the seal she went whizzing around the rink so we couldn’t keep up and eventually tried without it.
This was great fun and I would recommend it. Definitely something to try out this winter. Kids and adults will love it.
