I was really excited to be asked to review Dr Jackson’s 06 Body Toning Essence. Having never used a body toning essence before, I was really looking forward to seeing what magic it could work on me! I was really impressed with the look of the product when it arrived; it was in a small brown box and looked very ‘natural’. The top of the box had ‘recycle, repurpose, reuse’ written across it, giving an indication of that Dr Jackson’s are very keen on sustainability and the environment. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the company hadn’t felt the need to wrap the box in single-use plastic, which is so often the case these days! This was a massive plus for me.

Other information provided on the box gave me further indications of the company ethos, in that the product is for all skin types, all genders, no synthetics and not tested on animals. All of which are brilliant selling points, particularly in 2023. On the back of the box I noted that the ingredients were divided into ‘key natural ingredients’ and then further down the box ‘ingredients’, which I felt was a little bizarre, but I guess they wanted to highlight those ingredients which are natural and contribute to the benefits of the product. They also printed a brief description of the product and directions for use.

Upon opening the box, I found an attractive-looking glass jar with a black shiny lid. The product looked premium, despite being relatively plain in appearance and I’m definitely planning on reusing or repurposing it once it’s empty. The back of the jar gives info about what the product is used for and directions for use. I also found a small plastic spatula in the box, which after reading the company’s website, it became apparent is to be used to prevent contamination of the product. Personally, I would have thought this is surplus to requirements and goes against the environmental messages that the company convey.

The body toning essence has been formulated to be an all-over hydrating and firming body toner to revitalise, firm, refresh, regenerate, hydrate, repair and soothe the skin, as it is rich in antioxidants and botanicals, which work in sync. When I opened the jar, I wasn’t massively taken with the scent of the product, which I felt was quite strong and a little over-powering. Considering the product is targeted to all genders, I felt the scent was more on the masculine side, but I guess that’s the down to the botanicals in the product.

The essence itself had a gel consistency, rather than like a creamy moisturiser. It was cool to the touch and felt light, not sticky, which I thought it might be on first appearance. It felt really pleasant when I applied it to my skin and massaged it in. It quickly absorbed into my skin and I could get dressed straight away, without having to wait for it to soak into my skin, which is great if, like me, you have a busy lifestyle.

At the time of my review, I have been using the product for 4 days, after showering. Although I think I’ll need to be using it for at least 2 weeks before seeing a noticeable improvement in my skin, I am definitely feeling the benefit so far and am hopeful to have summer-ready skin for once in my life!

The Natural ingredients listed on the packaging, all have a specific purpose and benefit:
• Sea Buckthorn Kernel oil smooths and replenishes, enhancing collagen production, helping to
minimise the appearance of stretch marks and scars
• Aloe Leaf Juice hydrates, cools and calms
• Bitter Orange flower oil regenerates and restores while fighting blemishes, increasing circulation and stimulating cell growth
• Baobab Seed oil helps improve firmness and strength, delivering smooth, radiant and glowing skin, whilst providing vitamins and antioxidants that offer protection from environmental pollutants.

Dr Jackson’s are committed to ethical and cruelty-free skincare. They are Leaping Bunny Certified, meaning that their products are not tested on animals, which extends across the whose supply chain. The product is also Vegan friendly.

Dr Jackson’s supports 1% for the Planet, which is a global network of businesses, individuals and environmental organisations tackling our Planet’s most pressing environmental issues. Businesses give 1% of their sales back to the environment. Which is a great initiative and demonstrates the business is environmentally and socially responsible, which is such an important matter these days and a really strong selling point.

The Company won Eco Brand of the Year at The Beauty Shortlist Awards 2021 and Best Zero Waste Brand and Plastic-Free Brand at the Beauty Shortlist Awards 2020.

Dr Jackson’s 06 Body Toning Essence retails for £50 for 200ml. Their website offers 15% off your first purchase, with free delivery over £45. It’s definitely a premium product and I would expect to pay around this amount, for a product such as this and of this size. I would definitely considering purchasing the product again, when funds allowed. It would also make a really lovely present for a special person in your life, if you’re looking for a gift, that they might not necessarily buy themselves.
