Doing Lisa Johnson’s Race To Recurring Revenue Free Of Charge Challenge For The First Time – Day One
It was around a year ago that I first heard about Lisa Johnson, a Global Business Strategist. From reading the about section of Lisa’s website I found out that she has had quite the inspirational journey to where she is now both life and business wise. Over time I have heard from several people how much she has impacted people’s lives/businesses in a positive way. I therefore jumped at the chance to take part in this year’s free of charge Race To Recurring Revenue challenge.
Why did I make the decision to take part in this challenge?
Where I feel I am at with the WGTD website is that so much groundwork is done, but it isn’t yet where I would like it to be. To further explain, I feel so proud of the numbers the website is achieving (89,000 unique visits last month and 3.8 million page views in 2024) and I am delighted with the long-term relationships that have been built with a number of clients and reviewers over the years, however business turnover levels are not where I would like them to be on either the advertising/sponsorship or reviewer side of things, I would like to further grow website numbers/reviewer numbers/review opportunities and finally launch the WGTD Digital Membership Card this summer. This would bring 3 revenue streams into my business with a lot of scope for recurring revenue. I also hope to explore other ideas for potential additional revenue streams as I am of the mindset that having several revenue streams is better than just having one. As someone who has chronic health conditions and both visible and invisible disabilities I am thankful that I can already work flexibly. Now I want to work smarter and incorporate a passive/partially passive income steam into my business.
First steps
The first step was to sign up for the challenge. I then requested to join the Facebook group for the challenge and was let into the group a couple of days later. Upon joining the Facebook group we had the opportunity to do an introduction post which I snapped up. At a certain point, and very sensibly in my opinion, group members were asked to post their introductions on a specific thread rather than as a post. In the Facebook group are a mix of people who have done the challenge before, in some cases multiple times, as well as people who like me are new to the challenge. Lisa’s team post on the Facebook group and seem to be friendly, knowledgeable, supportive and approachable. The Facebook group seems to have a real community spirit and it feels like having a room full of cheerleaders whilst having the opportunity to support others. It has been lovely to see so many other people in business who I know taking part.
The welcome party
I have been so excited since I signed up and therefore could not wait to get started with the challenge. I was therefore delighted to hear that there would be a welcome party on Facebook live. I found Lisa to be approachable, transparent and relatable. I have a learning difficulty of a dyspraxic nature and I am therefore neurodiverse. I can struggle to understand things, but this was not the case with Lisa. Lisa is great at interacting with the Facebook live viewers. After watching the Facebook live for the welcome party I was even more excited about getting started with day one of the challenge today. For anyone who is unable to watch the Facebook lives at the time they first happen, each video is helpfully added to the guides section of the Facebook group.
The well organised facebook group
I did not manage to watch day one’s Facebook live at 10am when it happened, but I found it easily within the guides section of the Facebook group, along with 3 bonus videos which Lisa did before the challenge started. I do at this point want to mention how well organised the challenge has been with clear information and a very well laid out Facebook group. Another section of the Facebook group that I have found particularly helpful is the events section. Each event has clear information about when each Facebook live will take place which allowed me to plan for attending the launch party at the actual time of the Facebook live.
The bonus videos
Before watching the day one video, I decided to watch all 3 of the bonus videos. I do not want to give too much away, so I will just tell you that I think the bonus videos are the perfect length to keep people engaged and I have found the content both informative and useful. I can struggle to focus but I have not had that issue with Lisa’s videos. I can struggle to keep track of tasks, but I have even been able to mark videos/posts within the guides section of the Facebook group as done so that I can clearly see where I am up to with the challenge.
Day one’s facebook live and task
After watching the bonus videos, I moved onto watching the video for today’s challenge which I found to be helpful. Again, I found Lisa to be relatable, informative and easy to understand. I was able to stay focused throughout the 28-minute video and I was left with a clear understanding of today’s task. I then found the thread for today’s task on the facebook group and posted my response on it.
Renee’s mindset themed Facebook live
Renee did a mindset themed facebook live at 4pm today. I have not managed to fully watch this as yet, however I know that the video is there in the guides section of the facebook group for when I decide to watch it. I hope to do so tomorrow.
How I feel at the end of day one and info links
At the end of day 1 of the RRR challenge, I feel more hopeful and excited about my business and further working on trying to get it to where I would like it to be. It’s been really lovely to have the opportunity to read about other people’s journeys in the challenge’s Facebook group.
