My Little World Airport Review

Reviewed by Amanda Hayes

I was lucky enough to receive the My Little World Airport set to review just as we were going on holiday, the size and weight was perfect for popping into my hand luggage, so I dropped it in to open later. To my son’s surprise I took out the pack after take-off to show him. He soon got the packet opened where we found the pack contained 12 A5 cards ready to colour in and 12 coloured pencils. There were also 5 little coloured plastic stands to place your artwork in when completed. The only thing missing was a pair of scissors to cut out the shapes, but we concentrated on the colouring in for the journey.

The 12 cards consisted of 2 buildings cards, the Main Terminal and Control Tower, 7 Plane and vehicles cards Passenger Jet x 2, Cargo plane, Baggage Truck, Private Jet, Helicopter, Fire Engine and 3 character cards containing 15 characters. Our six year old dove straight in and spent the next hour or so colouring in his airport. One of the things I really liked was the fun description on each card, it really helped bring the story to life. We learnt about Eric and Erica the pilot twins, Dizzy Andy and Edie the super helpful flights attendants, two families taking their holidays and Terry Toucan and his baggage truck to name but a few. Some of the cards need folding in half to stand up like the baggage truck and some just stand in their little plastic stands so even without cutting the shapes out we could have a game of airports across the plane tables. It was just the characters that really needed cutting out before play. Apart from the stands there aren’t any small pieces to this play set so it is easy to get out and pack away, I didn’t need to spend my usual 5 minutes scrabbling under my neighbour’s seat looking for bits of games before landing!

My son loves colouring but the excitement of a colouring book on a journey can soon disappear especially as children nearby were all on their iPad’s. My little world airport kept my son happy and content for at least half the journey, then on arrival we got to play again when we found a pair of scissors and got the cards all cut out. I think it is very good value for the £4.99 price tag. There are 8 My Little World options to choose from including the airport, the other seven include two ‘My Little Scotland’ options: Loch Ness and Edinburgh Castle, Christmas Time, Emergency Services, Fairy Village, Space Station Foxtrot and The Village High Street. Boy or girl, birthday, holiday, Christmas or rainy day you will certainly find an option for your child to enjoy.

I was interested to read about the two creators Richard and Tim on the website. Parents themselves and having worked on various high-profile animated TV shows and games, such as Peppa Pig, Moshi Monsters and Hey Duggee they decided to create something which will help children reduce screen time and get back to basics. Using only pencils and paper to spark a child’s imagination may not be a new idea but it certainly seems to have been put to one side in recent years, you only had to look around the aeroplane and see the children fixated on their screens to realise that. Luckily my son loves crafting but I think some children may need a little prompting and you can’t get better than these environmentally friendly craft sets. They are created, manufactured and printed in the UK on responsibly sourced paper and board. All paper, card and packaging is recyclable so even though you are having fun and creating something you can be happy that you are doing your bit for the environment.

In fact, there are only positives to these sets, there are simple but fun characters, free from guns and other violent images, a story to each card which sparks the children’s imagination, no tiny parts to lose, recyclable and great value for money. I’ll definitely be adding one of these to my son’s Christmas stocking this year and they will be my first point of call for birthday gifts. A great product with appeal for all young children,

Highly recommended.
