Like the majority of 30 something year old women Dirty Dancing is one of my all-time favourite movies and I was unsure whether the stage show would live up to the film. I was not disappointed. It was fantastic, one of the best stage shows I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen a lot!).
When we arrived at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford it was a joy to see lots of women clearly buzzing with anticipation, and a few daunting looking men by their sides. The theatre is a warm, inviting and beautiful building. The staff were friendly and welcoming despite it being very busy.
I’m sure most of you know the story! It’s the summer of 1963, and 17 year old Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman is about to learn some major lessons in life as well as a thing or two about dancing! ‘Baby’s’ life is about to change forever as she is thrown in at the deep end as Johnny’s leading lady both on-stage and off with breath-taking consequences.
The audience were a lively one and joined in with hit songs ‘Hungry Eyes’, ‘Hey! Baby’, ‘Do You Love Me?’ and my favourite ‘I’ve Had the Time of My Life’ had lots of the audience on their feet.

With famous quotes “I carried a watermelon”, “I’m scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I’m with you” and “no one puts baby in a corner” the audience were captivated and certainly had the time of their lives demonstrated by a standing ovation!
The Alhambra is just 10 minutes walk from both Bradford train stations and a few steps walk away from lots of lovely places to eat and drink. There is a NCP carpark just around the corner from the theatre that I understand offers discounted parking for customers attending the theatre.
Top marks from us and I am already trying to convince my other half to come along with me next week!
Genuinely one of the best shows I’ve seen.
