Dick Whittington at the Theatre Royal Windsor Review

23 November 2018 to 6 January 2019

Reviewed by Jo Wright

It’s that time of year again and the Theatre Royal in Windsor is celebrating 80 years of panto, and this year’s offering is Dick Whittington.

This year’s pantomime stars Marti Webb as Fairy Bowbells, Anita Harris as Queen Rat with I’m a Celebrity’s and The Chase’s Anne Hegerty playing Queen Rat on her return from the jungle (18 Dec – 6 Jan). The beautiful and talented Megan Jones plays Alice Fitzwarren, who is the love interest of Dick Whittington, who is played by the fabulous AJ Jenks. Basil Brush returns to Windsor this year and the brilliant duo Steven Blakeley, who is in his 10th year as the resident Dame, and Kevin Cruise as the calamitous comic alongside DJ legend Mike Read.

The story of dick Whittington and his best friend Basil Brush, who are travelling to London to find their fortunes, believing the streets will be paved with gold is told in typical panto style with plenty of moments that had everybody howling with laughter. The usual it’s behind you moments and lots of up to date pop songs included in the dance routines.

Audience participation is all part of the fun. The whole production was brilliant including the costumes, sets and choreography.

With the panto season now starting, Dick Whittington is a fun, family panto that will certainly get you into the Christmas spirit.

We give this panto a 5 star rating, oh yes we do!
