Demons of Ghent by Helen Grant is the second book in the Forbidden Spaces Trilogy.

This is an addictive read, where once started its hard to put the book down. The opening chapter sets the scene of the whole book – a murder from the highest heights!

This book continues on with Veerle’s life following the death of her mother (Silent Saturdays – book one of the Forbidden Trilogy). Veerle moves to Ghent to live with her Dad and his partner, where she is not wanted by the new maternal figure in her life. Veerle struggles to settle into Ghent, schools a chore she rarely attends and the only thing that keeps her slightly happy is her climbing.

The storytelling gives you a marvellous description of Ghent and you can really imagine the types of rooftops and castles Veerle and her new friend Brent ascend. Kris also makes a return to the book and their love life is a rocky road.

Meanwhile throughout Ghent the mysterious deaths continue- how does this connect to Veerle- read this compelling book to find out!

Fast paced in places this book contains a few Dutch words which I needed to look up to fully understand them, not compulsory as I got the drift of what was occurring but I wanted to confirm the way I was interpreting them was correct!

If you are a fan of thrillers and detective story’s this is a fantastic book to read and now I am looking forward to reading book 3 in the trilogy once it is published.
