If you are like me and have PlayStation mad children (age 7 and 10) then you want to make sure that the games they play will hold their attention and challenge them enough to want to keep going. When I was asked to review this DC League of Superpets – The adventures of Krypto and Ace for the PlayStation 4 I thought it would be a good opportunity for my kids to try out a game that is quite different from the one they usually play.

To access the game I was sent a code -something I’ve which I’ve never done before – always favouring to own a physical copy but I can definitely see the advantages of this – less clutter and no scratched discs! The process was really easy and it didn’t take long for the game to download. The game is based on the popular film – DC League of Super-Pets and the player gets to choose which superhero character they want to be – Krypto or Ace. The game is based in Metropolis with 3 regions shown on a map and the Super Pet must fly through different neighbourhoods (each with a different look) within each region avoiding the attacks of the ‘bots’ and shooting them down to earn extra points and boost their own health stats. There is opportunity to collect bonus items and power-ups that will help with other activities outside of the region. Upon completion of the each region, awards are earned and their status goes from being a dog in training to being an excellent dog. There’s lots of incentive to keep players interested.

If that wasn’t enough there’s even more going on between defending the neighbourhood, the player gets to look after the stray pets within the adoption centre by choosing to play with them or give them food; in turn this boosts their health stats. This means that the strays can be paired with an owner and adopted – once the owners credentials have been reviewed of course! The quality of the match is then rated.

The controls of the movement of your chosen Super Pet are quite straightforward and easy to learn. The game has a narration throughout with voices from the film so children can follow a story line. The graphics are really nice and simple so not too overwhelming for children, allowing them to focus on what they need to. There is an option in the settings which I really like, to turn tweak the levels of the sounds and music within the game. As a parent listening to these games, sometimes for longer that I’d like, I find this really useful.

This game is suitable for ages 7 and up. I think this is just right as its simple enough for a young player to master, yet challenging. However, once character ratings are too low when they’re shot they do get more chances so no meltdowns as a result.

RRP and Buy link: The game retails at £27.99 and would make a great gift for any young players, especially those who are animal lovers or fans of the film. Its available at https://en.bandainamcoent.eu/dc-league-of-super-pets/dc-league-of-super-pets-the-adventures-of-krypto-and-ace.

Rating: I give it a 5/5 as I think it’s a really playable game that will keep any child hooked and aiming to get better and better.
