My husband and I along with our two young children went for a late lunch in Cote Restaurant in Chichester. The restaurant is situated within the city centre so we parked in one of the multi-storey car parks and walked the short distance to the restaurant.
We were greeted instantly by a very polite waiter who showed us to our table, and asked us if it was suitable before taking our coats and presenting us with the menu.
The restaurant itself is very stylish, yet comfortable and inviting. It was full of customers enjoying food yet it was not noisy, and even though we had 2 young children aged 4 and 3, they were made to feel welcome and the waiter even joked that it didn’t matter if they broke anything.
We were given a Specials Menu, A La Carte and a Children’s Menu. The choice on all three menus was superb! My husband and I decided to order from the A La Carte menu and it was really a tough choice as there were so many dishes that sounded delicious.
When a waiter came to take our drinks order, I ordered a glass of red wine and the waiter provided guidance on what type to go for and briefly described the different choices available. He tempted us to go for something light to eat whilst waiting for our food and we decided on Fougasse, which is garlic bread shaped like leaf and seasoned with salt. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable on the menu and asked if we would like our children’s meal to be brought with our starters which was an excellent idea.
For starters I decided to go for Prawn Gratinee and my husband went for the Charcuterie Board, and for main course I chose Beef Bourgeon and my husband chose Rib-eye steak with Frites. The choice on the children’s menu was excellent and both my son and daughter picked sausage and mash.
My children’s food arrived first and it was beautifully displayed and just right portion size for them. They both really enjoyed it. The rest of the food was beautiful, the prawns in my starter were large and the beef in my Bourgeon was so tender, it literally melted in my mouth. My Beef Bourgeon also came with a mash potato was beautifully presented. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his steak which was cooked to perfection and he was helped with his frites by my two children. The waiter was very attentive during the service, and brought over fresh water in lovely ceramic brown bottles.
I could not manage another bite, yet my husband was able to squeeze in a Creme Brûlée for desert and my children both had vanilla ice cream. I assume by all of their empty bowls that they all enjoyed their deserts!
The toilets in the restaurant are upstairs and are very clean and obviously checked on a regular basis.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere in the restaurant was perfect. My husband and I both feel that the service we received really made our meal feel special. We were served by perhaps 3 different staff members, all of who were extremely polite and friendly, as well as knowledge on the food and menu and it was little things such as the waiter calling my 4 year old son ‘Sir’ and 3 year old daughter ‘Madam’ which caught our eye and made the service exceptional.
Our total bill came to £95 which included a 12% gratuity charge. I feel this was a fair price as we did get a lot of food and it was exceptional quality, and although this is more than we would normally spend for a Saturday lunch, we would go back for a special treat.
I would really recommend Cote Restaurant, the food and service are excellent and it was nice to be able to bring our children to a restaurant of this calibre and still feel welcome and most all enjoy the food!
