I was lucky enough to be sent a Cosy Owl Candle Making Kit. This was perfect timing as I am prepping for Christmas, and I thought I would make these as gifts for friends and family.

The kit comes well packaged in a fully recyclable cardboard box, included is all you need to make 5 scented Soy Candles:
5 Glass Containers,
5 Wicks,
Fragrance Oil,
800g of Soy wax,
Dye
A Beginners Guide to making candles.

I was sent the Christmas Spice fragrance which smells delicious, like cinnamon and baking like a Christmassy kitchen. This kit is available in many different fragrances such as orange, chocolate or lavender to name a few, it’s worth checking out the website to see what’s available.

The Candle Making kit itself would be a lovely gift for a crafty person in your life, but since I am that crafty person I decided to make them myself to give as presents. I have made candles before but I am in no way experienced in the art.

The guide was clear and concise with pictures showing each step, my only criticism was that it recommended using a thermometer as the fragrance oil has a flash point (this isn’t included) I didn’t have one so I decided to wing it.
I melted the wax as instructed and added the dye and fragrance and stirred gently, i used a small amount of wax to secure the wick in the bottom of the glasses and then used a jug to pour the wax into the glasses. It’s worth buying yourself a cheap plastic jugs for this purpose, I picked one up from the supermarket for about 35p so didn’t have to worry about cleaning it too thoroughly. I used pencils to keep the wicks centered and then it was just a matter of clearing up and waiting for them to set.

It was such a simple and quick craft and the results are so satisfying. The candles are well scented which I was pleased with, when I have made candles before the fragrance has been too subtle, but the smell of these filled the room.
I proudly gifted these to friends and they were impressed and appreciative.  I could definitely get into candle making as a hobby. I even looked at the Cosy Owl website and was interested to see they sell supplies at very reasonable prices which I will be using for future projects.

Overall I am impressed with this kit, it has certainly intrigued me to try more, I loved making these and if you know anyone crafty this would be right up their alley.  Other kits available are Wax Melts, Diffuser and Soap Making.

The Cosy Owl Candle Making Kits in all fragrances can be bought directly from their website for £18.44 which is an absolute bargain in my opinion. A wonderful gift for under £20, and when buying presents I often think ‘if in doubt go for a candle’ because who doesn’t love a beautifully scented candle. An easy choice for a win!
