As a huge fan of the film Chicago I couldn’t believe Chicago The Musical was coming to Milton Keynes theatre. This was very exciting!

I took along my Mum as we are both big fans and have always wanted to see the show. We had heard good things, and it certainly didn’t disappoint!

We like everything about Milton Keynes theatre, the building, the buzzing atmosphere, friendly staff and especially the location. It ticks all the right boxes. Parking is easy and free after 6pm, which is always a bonus.

There is a good selection of bars and restaurants surrounding the theatre, perfect for a drink and a bite to eat before the show.

Arrival at the theatre was easy as always. We were greeted by a smiling member or staff as we entered the foyer. She was very polite and welcoming. We stopped for a quick drink on our way to our seats in the beautiful garden room bar. This was very pleasant. We noticed as we got our drinks that there was a merchandise stand, full of some lovely items you can get your hands on! They were all reasonably priced, and they seemed to be selling quickly! The theatre was busy, we were excited to get to our seats and watch the show. The theatre was full.

Chicago the Musical is the second-longest-running show in Broadway’s history. Without giving too much away, it tells a great story of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, both accused of murder, as they prepare for and eventually go to trial.

The show is set in the roaring 1920’s. As we expected, there were lots of sparkles, glitz and glam. They were perfectly tailored to the time period, making us feel like we were truly watching a show in that era.

Faye Brookes played housewife and nightclub dancer, Roxie, brilliantly. Her voice and choreography was spot on.

Brenda Edwards was absolutely incredible as Mama Morton. We really loved her character, and wow what a voice! Not forgetting Djalenga Scott as Velma Kelly, she is so talented.

Kevin Clifton was brilliant too, and he certainly had the moves, his dancing was flawless.

The whole cast were amazing, and to be honest everyone deserved a mention.

The show was such fun, and a real credit to the film. It was fresh and vibrant, humorous, and the audience were all loving it. It had us laughing all the way through!

We loved that the band were on set on the stage, so we could watch them play. The band was a big focus in the show, with the cast dancing and moving in front and beside them. They played brilliantly! It made us feel so excited to hear the songs we love so much, played live.

The finale was also very impressive, and we were pleased to see the cast receive a well deserved standing ovation.

During the show, there was a slight technical issue causing it to stop. But as the curtains came up to continue their performance, the cast made a professional return to the stage.

We thought Chicago the musical is an absolute must see with its timeless themes, unforgettable music, and mesmerizing performances, proving that Chicago is indeed a city that never sleeps, especially when there’s razzle-dazzle and ‘All That Jazz.’ From start to finish, we felt ecstatic watching this show.
