Cats vs Pickles. If you have no idea what that is then you’re not alone. I had absolutely no idea and hadn’t heard of this craze. But my two children seemed to know all about it and so were extremely excited that we have been sent some Cats vs Pickles items to try out. The toys arrived in a cardboard box and then were wrapped in tissue paper which they children loved as they got to unwrap each one.

So to begin with there was an internet craze in which pet owners placed cucumbers (or pickles) in front of their cats and then videoed the strange and funny reactions their cats had. Then last year, loosely based on this social media phenomena, Cats vs Pickles was launched which now also has a popular Youtube account with videos featuring the toys.

Cats vs Pickles is a range of collectible plush toys that come in a range of patterns. They are all either cats or pickles. They are small, handheld size and extremely soft and cuddly. They are made with a soft material and then stuffed with beans giving them a squishy feeling.

In total there are now over 200 hundred different designs to collect. They are mainly cats with the pickles being more rare. Each one has a different pattern that corresponds with its ‘paw-sonality’ and comes with a tag listing the character’s name, number and a short bio about it. There are Foodie cats such as Eggs & Bacon, Scary cats like Skelecat, Sweet Cats including S’mores and finally Smarty cats like Coder Cat. Don’t worry there is also a collector’s sheet listing each one so you can tick off and keep track of what you’ve got!

We were lucky to be sent four cats and a pickle. Our favourite is Jelly Bean who is white with lots of little jelly bean patterns all over. We also received Roboticat, Eggplant, Psychedeli-kitty and a pickle called Punt which is designed as an American Football player.

Each tag also has a QR code on which when scanned leads to a free download link for the Cats vs Pickles mobile game in which your cat player must avoid being hit with pickles. It is available to download on iOS and Android.

The Cats vs Pickles plush characters are suitable for 4 plus years. They really are adorable. My children have enjoyed cuddling them already and also as they are like small bean bags they’ve been great fun for throwing and catching too. We are now going to be visiting the toy shop at the weekend to add more to our collection. Priced at £4.99 they are a perfect pocket money toy and reasonably priced in my opinion for the high quality of these. Now the only thing we have left to decide? Are we team cat or are we team pickle?
