Last September, I was given the opportunity to see Bye Bye Baby and to review the show. I had an absolutely amazing time, the show was fantastic and I gave it an easy 5/5 rating. Bearing this in mind, I jumped at the chance to review the show again this year. So yesterday evening (28 September 2017), I attended The Hawth theatre in Crawley with my 12-year-old daughter to see the band perform for the second time. I had high hopes that it would be as good as I had remembered it was last year. We arrived at The Hawth where the greeting was warm as always and the staff were friendly and approachable. The bar was open for snacks and drinks before the show commenced.

We took our seats in a packed-out auditorium awaiting the start of the show. The stage was set up simply with the equipment for the band and microphones for the singers. The show opened with an outstanding rendition of “Who loves you baby” – immediately the audience were engaged. The singers looked outstanding in their blue velvet jackets and black patent shoes. The choreography was simple yet slick and they were all in perfect timing with each other. You could tell that this was going to be another knock out show. The boys did not disappoint – some amazing hits followed including “Walk like a man”, “Let’s hang On“ and “December ‘63” to name just a few. The audience were clapping along, singing and tapping their feet! It was lovely to be able to hear the wonderful hits of Frankie Valli performed in such a beautiful fitting way with the best falsetto voice I have ever heard! The harmonies were incredible and nothing short of a work of art.

As well as listening to the hits, the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is told throughout the show which I really like as it puts the hits in context with what was happening in the lives of the band at the time. Some pictures of Frankie and the band were displayed on the stage for all to see.

In the second half, we were given a treat with the band dressed in beautiful red jackets. At this point, a young 9-year-old lad came on stage and sang my favourite song “My eyes adored you” with the band. The audience went wild for the young boy but also for the band for giving him the opportunity to sing with them.

The musicians were also outstanding on the bass, guitar, keys and drums. It is lovely to see them all on stage with the singers and not hidden away. You could tell there was a mutual respect between the musicians and the singers.

When we thought it was all over (sadly), we were then gifted with an amazing acapella number and the best finale mix I have heard in a long time. So, the question begs, was it as good as I remembered from last year and would I recommend it to others?? ABSOLUTELY!!!! These guys are more Frankie Valli than Frankie himself and I would not hesitate to give this a clear 5/5 or 100% rating!!!

Rating: 5/5
