Buxton Opera House is one of the most beautiful venues in the whole country for any type of show and one of my very favourite places to visit so I was delighted to have the chance to go and see The Bootleg Beatles there on Friday 20th March.
Buxton is surprisingly accessible from a wide range of places and it’s not unusual to be rubbing shoulders in the bar with other visitors from Manchester to Derby or Sheffield and it’s easy to see why people do make the effort. Parking is easy in the town with plenty of pay and display car parks (if you can’t find parking directly in Spring Gardens I recommend going to the Pavillion Gardens pay and display car park which is a short stroll back through the gardens to the Opera House).
Restaurants catering for early evening pre-show sittings are popular and offer great meals, but it’s worth booking and letting them know you’re going to a show, they can then accommodate you easily and without pressure.
Walking into the atmospheric Opera House is always a treat, the period detail is well highlighted and adds an air of sophistication to the night out. The front of house staff go out of their way to be welcoming and help you in any way they can, it seems as though they are so proud to be part of such a stunning venue.
We weren’t quite sure what to expect from the show itself but there was a real air of expectation from the fans around us, the group seem to have a good following and when they ran through their set made up of the most famous Beatles tracks it was easy to see why. The songs were interspersed with footage projects onto a screen on the back showing clips from all our beloved childhood memories which covered the costume changes well.
As the show progressed the band aged well coming to a rousing encore of Hey Jude which was ringing in all our ears as we left the theatre.
I wouldn’t normally have booked tickets for a show like this but it certainly felt like a crowd pleaser and if you are looking for a tribute type show I would recommend this one. Buxton Opera House has a wide range of different shows and I would highly recommend it for a night out.
