I was very pleased to be chosen to review the Bepanthen Baby Sun Cream as it couldn’t have come at a better time given that the sun has made an appearance for the first time this week and it has been the first time my six month old son has needed to wear sun cream.

From what I already knew about the Bepanthen brand, having previously used the nappy cream, I was expecting the sun cream to be a high quality product and I wasn’t disappointed!

The cream comes in a 75ml tube which retails for approximately £10.

The packaging was attractive and felt good quality and sturdy. Being a tube it was easy to flip the top open with one hand which made it very easy to use. Also the relatively small size was ideal to fit in my changing bag so that I could carry the sun cream with us while out and about for reapplying when needed – which according to the instructions was fairly frequently.

The instructions were clearly printed on the tube and easy to follow. They stated that the cream needed to be applied 15-30 minutes before sun exposure, then again shortly after going outside. It should also be reapplied every 1-2 hours. This did make me wonder how long the contents of the tube would last. There is however still plenty left after we have tested it for two days outside in the sunshine.

The cream is fragrance free and also contains no colours, parabens or other preservatives. I was also pleased to see it is also lanolin free.

I found the cream very easy to rub into my son’s skin; it was quickly absorbed and didn’t leave any greasy residue. When I first applied the cream it had a slightly medicated smell but this soon faded. I used it on both his body and face with no problems so I would imagine this cream would be ideal for babies with sensitive skin as well.

Another positive is that the cream is water resistant; however I was unable to put this aspect to the test.

My one negative comment about this cream, and for me an important one, is that it only has a 3 star (good) UVA rating which surprised me given the fairly high price of the sun cream and the SPF 50+ rating.

Overall I was very pleased with this product and would recommend for the ease of use and quality. However, for me personally, I probably wouldn’t purchase the cream myself solely because of the UVA rating as I always buy cream with at least a 4 star rating for both myself and my children.
