I am a self-professed chocolate addict, so when I heard that I’ll get to do a review on a chocolate subscription box, I was more than happy.
The box of chocs arrived quickly, and I was impressed from the first moment I opened it. The packaging was not only minimal, but a lot of thought was put into the design of this. It is not often that packaging is part of the whole experience, but in this case, it definitely is. A map printed on the inside gives you an overview on some of the history of chocolate, and it suddenly makes you feel connected to this business. I absolute love what they’ve done there.
Then, a variety of chocolate. Ten bars, to be exact. And they are from weird to wonderful. When I say weird, do not take that as a negative! The flavours are quite unique, and it is neither something I’ve come across a lot, nor something I would have thought to pick up and try. Which is what make a gift like this, just perfect. It gives you a chance to try out things you never would, and expand your knowledge and experience just a little bit.
Now I stated that I was a bit of a chocolate addict, but it would be a complete lie to claim that I am an expert. Which is why the information that comes with the bars, are not only useful, but it adds so much to the enjoyment of this whole experience. Learning more about the beans, where they come from, and following the suggestions on how to eat this, really puts this gift in a different league. Add to that the fact that some of these bars will only ever be available in the subscription boxes, and you really have something special and unique.
But that’s not all. You are given a flavour map, which teaches you a little bit more in a glance, and gives you an understanding of the origin of these single estate cacaos. Then, a beautiful, fold out map of ‘Willie’s World of Cacao’, which takes you on the journey of the chocolatier. It is beautifully presented.
There’s even more. The people at Willie’s Cacao also added a few raw Rio Caribe beans, as well as some roasted nibs. Adding something like that, is the cherry on the cake, making this feel like an experience, not just a box of chocolate bars.
I was delighted to see that they also offer a tasting video for the subscription boxes. Even though I’ve not had a chance to make use of it on this occasion before writing the review, I most certainly will next time.
There is no doubt in my mind that this will make for an excellent Father’s Day gift. For the lucky dads (or anyone else) who get this, there will be a live tasting session with Willie on Zoom, on Father’s Day! Just another excellent accompanist for such a unique gift.
Overall, I was really impressed with this unique gift, and I would highly recommend this for anyone who wants to spoil their Dad on Father’s Day. It will stay high on my list for whenever I need to give a special gift for any occasion. This is not just a box of chocolate bars. It is an experience.
The subscription boxes are available for £19.99/month, but if you only want a one-off gift, you can order that too.
