More commonly recognised for his stand up contributions on television shows such as Mock the Week, Andy’s live stage performance heads a little more down the philosophical route. Not only does Andy Parsons have a knack for great philosophical comedy, he is an amazing observationalist. His show may be naturally cautious but he’s not afraid to speak about tough political subjects to get his audience thinking and laughing. The naturally cautious comes in because I think out of all of the comedians I have seen he is the least offensive.
Andy talks about being a shambles. Everything is a shambles from being a man to his house etc… but he’s great at making his shambolic thought process into a seamless comedy set. Keeping the audience laughing constantly, switching his train of thought frequently but always returning back to his philosophical ways.
Throughout his performance Andy’s observational humour is something that we all relate to, discussing topics from growing old (and death) to keeping looking young. He has some great hints and tips, although not all are practical they are all definitely comedy gold.
The true sign of how great a comedian Andy is was his applause at the end of the night. I have been to see many a comic, the majority in the Quays Theatre at Lowry just like Andy, but I have never heard applause/cheers that loud or go on for that long. The audience loved him and I know I laughed so hard my cheeks hurt.
A great night to be had by all – definitely not to be missed. But be quick, tickets sell fast and the Lowry was a sell-out.
I hope to see him again.
