My husband and I were given the opportunity to attend the New Alexander Theatre in Birmingham on the 26 September 2015 to experience An Evening of Burlesque. We both enjoyed this experience and we were for burlesque virgins before this evening of entertainment.

It was one big extravaganza from start to finish. The dancers were cheeky, seductively and extremely talented. The costumes were oozing with glitz and glamour and included corsets, killer heels, stockings and suspenders. There were some remarkable acts such as the dance conducted in ballet pointes and the hula hooping dance. The dancer in the champagne glass was extremely seductive and certainly got the audience going. The nip tassels were interesting and they could definitely keep them spinning. Some for the performance included singing and the singers were good and cleverly incorporated stripping their clothes off in a raunchy manner alongside their singing.

The compare was very camp and funny. He definitely gained audience participation throughout the whole performance and he was part and parcel of why the performance was such a hit. The theatre was mainly full and there were onlookers dressed in corsets too. The audience was a mix of all ages, there were couples, groups of females and wide range of different sexes too.

The programme was priced at £7.00 which personally I think these were a little overpriced.

I would rate the performance and experience as 3 out of 5.

The theatre itself is very stylish and elegant. There is an attractive piano bar and we took the opportunity to have a drink prior to the show. Drinks are priced in line with other venues of a similar nature. The bar area also sold the usual items such as crisps, sweets and nuts. During the intervals refreshments like ice cream, sweets etc. were on offer both from the bar and within the theatre area too.

All staff encountered from booking office staff, bar staff to ushers were polite and welcoming and helped achieve warm, friendly and welcoming environment. The theatre was clean and tidy and well maintained. Toilets were clean, well-stocked and hygienic. Seats were comfortable with plenty of leg room. The decor was good, the stage was well light and easy to see.
