I was really pleased to be chosen to review An Audience with Ian Waite & Oti Mabuse: Rhythm of the Night at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable as I have been an avid fan of Strictly Come Dancing since it started in 2004.

We arrived at the theatre, parked in the free car park, which is a very short walk away. We picked up our tickets from the very friendly staff at The Grove and were shown to Door B of the auditorium. We made our way to our seats, which were at the back, but we still had a great view of the stage.

The music started, and the show began with Oti Mabuse and Ian Waite coming on stage. Oti has been appearing on Strictly for 3 years and was also in the German version of the programme. Ian was also on Strictly but from the very beginning in 2004 and is also a very big part of the ‘It Takes Two’ programme.

They started by chatting to the audience which was so lovely as you get to know more about them and their personalities. Once they started dancing it was fabulous. It is so much better than seeing them on TV. They had costume changes for each dance and we lost count in the end. So much glitter and glitz… it was wonderful.

During the first half some of the audience were invited up on stage to dance with Oti and helped by Ian, everybody young and old had a great time.

Also joining them on stage was Oti’s husband Marius Lepure, who is also a professional dancer and appears on Strictly. He is fabulous too. He danced a duet with Ian which was riveting. They also all danced as a trio which was mesmerising.

As well as the dancing there was singing by backing singer Izzy Chase, who has worked with Rod Stewart and Ellie Goulding, to name but a few. She has a very powerful voice. Ian took over her singing on one number and we were very surprised, what a good singer he is.

In the second half Oti and Ian gave a Q&A session with the audience which was greatly applauded. They are not just brilliant dancers but lovely human beings too. I could go into so much more detail, but I think it would spoil it for the people who are going to the show.

We had a brilliant evening and would recommend you go if it is in your area and give this show a well-deserved 5*.

Rating: 5/5
