The Minutes Tour
The Lowry, Manchester

On the 24 October my friend and I were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to review Alison Moyet: The Minutes Tour concert at The Lowry in Manchester as part of her nationwide tour.
With 20 million record sales to her name over a 30 year career, this tour is to celebrate the launch of her new album, The Minutes, and her first album since 2007.
The concert started at 8pm with the support artist, Richard Walters. I have to say, I had never heard of him before and was intrigued what his musical style would be. He appeared on stage alone with a guitar. His voice was just fabulous and I fell in love with his music and style immediately. There is something quite amazing about just a voice and a guitar in a large auditorium. He really got the audience involved and relaxed in preparation for Alison Moyet’s arrival after the interval.
At 9pm we all went back into the theatre and as the lights went to black the electro-music style which Alison Moyet is infamous for filled the auditorium, and then suddenly stopped as Alison announced she didn’t have her voice pack switched on! This broke into laughter from the audience and within a couple of minutes the lighting went back to black and the atmosphere was set once again.
Alison’s memorable deep, rich tone filled the room as she sent shivers down the spine of the audience with her incredible voice! This was the style of the evening; Alison spoke between each song, introducing the two other musicians on stage and told us a little about the inspiration behind each of the songs. She was funny, and we saw glimpses of her personality, which made the audience warm to her.
The music and lighting was incredible – very electronic 80’s but with a modern twist! The concert ended with a few older songs in a new reworked such as Is this Love which changed from the pop song I remembered to a ballad. This new twist on some 80’s classics was refreshing – a new mature Alison Moyet is back.
A new album, a new size 10 look but with the same amazing voice! Go Alison!
Catch her on the Minutes tour in the UK until April 2014.
