Aldi Feed Your Family for £70 a Week Challenge Review

Reviewed by Louisa Nashir

With darker night’s drawing in and temperatures dropping we as a family find ourselves at home more in the winter sitting round the table playing games and eating more stodgy winter type foods.

Winter often leads to me gaining weight as I want satisfying and warming meals not salads when it’s cooler out.

As a member of Slimming World I like to be nose deep in one of my cook books creating some gorgeous low fat meals and treats for the family and this winter is no exception.

My local Aldi store in Eccles is stocked with just about everything I needed to plan our week’s meals and the price tag is considerably lower than other supermarkets meaning it’s the place to shop!

I popped along with my husband and daughter last week and left with a trolley full of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh and frozen meats, spices, desserts and much more.

Planning our weekly meals really helps us when shopping and a shopping list is vital otherwise the trolley gets filled with lots of unnecessary items and we find we have to go out during the week to pick up extras.

Our meal plan for this week follows…

Saturday
Breakfast:
Cereal
Lunch: Chicken and Noodle Soup
Dinner: Vegetable and Chicken Chow Mein

1

Sunday
Breakfast:
Bacon Sandwiches
Lunch: Poached Eggs on Toast
Dinner: Roasted Chicken and Vegetables.

During the week my husband takes lunches to work. This week he really enjoyed Mackerel Fillets in Tomato Sauce on a Jacket Potato, Spicy Lentil Soup and Homemade Shepherd’s Pie.

The girls have cereal and toast for breakfast and school lunches so below is a list of our evening meals.

Monday:
Tuna and Sweetcorn Pasta Bake with Garlic Baguettes.

Tuesday:
Stewed Steak, Mashed Potatoes and Vegetables.

Wednesday:
Homemade Shepherds Pie and Vegetables.

2

Thursday:
Homemade Meat and Potato Pie, Chips and Gravy.

Friday:
Chilli and Rice made with Turkey Mince.

As you can see the above meals are perfect Winter Warmers and were thoroughly enjoyed by the family.

The girls have been going mad for hot drinks, especially during the evenings and have found a real winner with the Choceur Mint Chocolate Light Drinks which are tasty and a great sweet fix at only 42 calories a cup!

As a slimmer the Benefit Light Summer Fruit bars have been handy and perfect to snack on when peckish and the Mature Grated Cheddar Cheese is delicious melted on toast for a super naughty lunch!

Feeding your family for a week at Aldi for £70 is easily achievable if you plan what you are having.

Give it a go as you will be surprised on the meals you can create and how purse friendly it is.
