Aladdin at The Hawth Crawley Review

7 December 2018 to 6 January 2019

The Hawth in Crawley is easy to find and has a large amount of free car parking spaces. It is a modern venue with large auditoriums. There are plenty of toilets, a cafe, restaurant and a number of bars for reasonably priced refreshments. The staff are always very helpful and friendly. What’s great about The Hawth is that there are no restrictive view seats in my opinion. Wherever you get seated you will get a great view of the stage. I’m never disappointed when I visit there.

I love a panto! The Hawth panto never disappoints. Last year it was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and this year it has surpassed itself with Aladdin. It has everything you want from a panto. Great music, humour a plenty, corny gags, audience participation and bundles of entertainment. It had all the usual ‘he’s behind you‘ and the lines everyone looks forward to screaming at the cast. I like the added little touches with the audience sing off and wishing happy birthday to the birthday boys and girls in the audience with a group sing a long.

The comic timing of the very talented Michael J Batchelor and Richard Franks is amazing. They truly work hard at what they do and are hilarious to watch. You can see that they really enjoy what they are doing too.

I won’t give too much away but my favourite bit without a doubt was the Twelve Days of Christmas sketch. Jess Robinson (Britain’s Got Talent) was also very much a star in this show with her amazing vocals, impressions and stage presence. This production was a treat as we got to boo Jason Gardiner (Dancing on Ice) who played the villain of the show Abananza and cheer for the hero Aladdin played by Shaheen Jarfogholi (EastEnders and Casualty). The never-ending FABULOUS dress changes made by Widow Twanky were first class!

One not to be missed. A fantastic show for adults and children alike!
