As the UK’s longest running theatre production, I wonder to myself why I have never been to see Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap before now. I am a huge murder mystery fan; so I was extremely excited to be invited to watch the 60th anniversary tour of The Mousetrap at the Opera House in Manchester.
I am not going to give away who the murderer is as that would ruin it for those of you who are looking forward to seeing this thoroughly engaging show.
The show begins at Monkshall Manor, a country hall which has just opened as a guest house by Mr and Mrs Ralston (Anna Andresen and Nick Barclay). The guests begin to arrive just as the snow has fallen hard, and leaving them stranded at the guest house. Soon after arriving they receive a call from the police informing them that there is a murderer amongst them. The guests staying include Mrs Boyle (Louise Jameson), a retired magistrate, Major Metcalf (Tony Boncza), an ex-army major, Mr Paravacini (Gregory Cox), a foreign business man who became stranded in the snow and arrived without having booked a room, Miss Casewell (Amy Downham), who was over visiting from Majorca and Christopher Wren (Oliver Gully), an over excitable architect.
Between them they are trying to solve which of them could be the murderer when one of them is murdered! Now they have to work out along with the aid of the Sgt Trotter (Lewis Collier), who is the murderer and who is their next victim… As the story unfolds I figured out who the murder was as little clues allowed me to solve the murder. My husband was shocked when the murderer was revealed however, as were many of the audience members.
The audience thoroughly enjoyed this production and enjoyed many jokes which were implied throughout. The show was very good and I am looking forward to watching my next murder mystery production.
This production runs for 2 hours and 20 minutes.
