Mirror Mirror on the wall… Who’s the fairest of them all? What a fantastic evening at Litchfield Garrick for this year‘s Christmas pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Once again, the Garrick has put on a fantastic show which promised us lots of laughter and a jolly good old start to our Christmas celebrations!

More or less following the traditional tale we all know and love so well, Snow White longs to marry her Prince Charming (Daniel Breakwell) much to the disappointment of her wicked stepmother and Queen (Lindsay Bennett-Thompson). We do however meet a new character, Herman the Henchman (George Akid), who I have to say turned out to be one of my favourite characters of the evening. Especially with his fantastic tribute to Queen, he had the audience clapping and singing along for his medley.

Off to a slow start with the audience, Nurse Nellie and co had to really try and coax some participation in the very beginning of the evening. Once they were all warmed up, the evening genuinely came into itself and fun and laughs were had by all, and rather a few by those on stage too!

Absolutely phenomenal set and costume design by Helga Wood and her companions Michael Batchelor and Joey Adams for the Dames costumes. You absolutely made the show the success it was.

SAM RABONE is back after last year’s smash-hit All New Adventures of Peter Pan! He quickly set his sights on a member of the audience and, after that, poor P*** (editor’s note – name removed) did not stand a chance! He even had the audience “encourage” him to join Nurse Nellie on stage for the wedding! Sam is joined by BRIAN WHEELER (Star Wars), and DEAN WHATTON (Game Of Thrones) as part of The Fantastic Seven! The Garrick is thrilled to welcome back GEORGE AKID (Cinderella), and MARIA CONNEELLY(All New Adventures of Peter Pan). The other five making up the fantastic seven also deserve special mention. Sarge (Dean Whatton) and Brian (Brian Wheeler) were already mentioned previously and they were accompanied by Groover (Liam Roche), Striker (George Coppen), Cheeky (Jack Hilton), Sniffly (Geoffrey Sergison) and my personal favourite Loopy, played by Isaac Natoli.

This fabulous production is written by PAUL HENDY, and co-produced by the award winning EVOLUTION PRODUCTIONS – the same creative collaboration behind All New Adventures of Peter Pan!

Just thought I would mention the smoke at the start of the show….not sure if it was a fault or part of the actual show but I could not imagine that the first two rows got to see (or breath) during the first 5 minutes of the show…. It was massively overpowering and may cause a problem for folks with asthma. I also thought the lead singers were a tad on the quiet side. Again, not sure if this was microphone issues or intentional but just something we noticed. It did not take away from the magic and fun of this show or the evening. We had a brilliant night out and can’t wait for next year’s show at the Garrick.

Rating: We rate this show as 4/5.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is showing until the 8th January.
