Wow, what a fabulous show.
We went to see New Jersey Nights at the Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells. The theatre is located in the centre of town with a ten minute walk from the train station and right next door to a car park. The theatre has a comfortable setting and we relaxed quickly to enjoy our show.
Seeing that New Jersey Nights is based upon the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons I was expecting a lead singer with four backing singers, but in fact it was a group of four men who all took turns in singing the lead. There were also six dancers on stage which encouraged you to sway in your seats to the music.
The three female singers even had a turn, singing a couple of the Ronettes hits including By My Baby to give the guys a small break in the first half of the show.
The band were located at the back of the stage and were brilliant throughout the non-stop music packed show. The saxophonist and guitarist even had a shot at centre stage for one song each during the second half of the performance.
Being in my late 20’s I did wonder if I would know many of the songs… However if you’re a fan of Dirty Dancing and Grease, you will know the majority of the songs which included, the theme song from Grease and Big Girls Don’t Cry.
Throughout the performance the singers gave you little tidbits of information about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, like did you know the Beatles stopped them getting their first number one in America?!
The singers did a fantastic job, there was a mistake by the lead singer in Blue Moon, he started off far too high for the rest of the group to join in, and they admitted the error and managed to turn it into a massive joke with the whole audience joining in with laughing.
The final few songs encourage audience participation with boogying in the aisles and singing to your hearts content, leaving you feeling joyful and entertained.
We left the show in such a happy mood and would really recommend it to all ages who like a good sing. The price of the tickets are a bargain for the level of performance and happiness this production leaves you with.
