Christmas at the Old Rectory Candle By Olivia’s Haven Review

Two of my favourite things are Christmas and Scented candles. I have always loved both, ever since I was a child. So I was thrilled to be selected to review the Christmas at the Old Rectory Candle by Olivia’s Haven. With warming notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves I couldn’t wait for it to arrive and to light it up, even in an unusually mild October. 

The first thing to note is how beautifully it was packaged. The item was packaged securely and safely in a box with padding. And then there is the candle box itself. According to the website the founder of the company, Olivia Burns, spent almost a year working with an illustrator called Jessica Smith to create the packaging that we see today on the boxes. I think it was worth taking the time as it is so beautiful decorated and really grasps the feel of the scent inside the box. This Christmas scented candle has images of holly leaves on the box and its adds to the anticipation of the product inside. 

After perusing the website further I discovered that each candle is vegan friendly and is made using 100% soy wax. They claim to use premium fragrances so we can expect to smell the rich aromas they have added to their products and they should burn for approx 45 hours. 

The scent is perfection. Almost immediately you are taken to past Christmas celebrations. I lit the candle and my children came home from school and the first thing they all said was “oh it smells of Christmas!”. The scent is strong enough to deliver those tones that you want in the home but not too strong that it becomes overpowering. As a migraine sufferer I am also particularly fussy about the fragrances and scented object I bring into my home. I can usually tell within minutes whether something is going to cause me to suffer from a migraine and with this candle, I am happy to say, I have not had that reaction. The candle itself burns evenly across the surface.

My absolute favourite thing, aside from the scent, about this product is the container that the candle is in. It is in a very classy white, matt jar and these are designed to be reusable. They can be washed out and used around the home. From a sustainability point of view I think this is great. The item continues to find a use even after the candle has been used. 

I am really excited to try out some other scents. Each scent has a wonderful description of what we can expect as the purchaser and I think that is a nice touch. 

This item would make a lovely gift for a friend or a family member. In fact with Christmas coming up, it would make the perfect Christmas gift!
