Can you make the noise of an excited duck? Or the sound of a creaking door? Perhaps a zombie? But what about a friendly ghost? Well you’ll need to be able to make all these silly sounds and more if you want to win the card game Uproar that my family and I have been playing this week.
Uproar is a new card game of silly sounds from McMiller Entertainment created by David McGranaghan and Julian Miller. It is for 2 – 4 players but also can be played with more split into teams and is suitable for 8+ years. The game arrived in a small, compact cardboard box which I like as it’s very convenient for travelling or bringing along to family and friends houses. Inside the box are 54 high quality square shaped game play cards plus extras which have the instructions to play printed on. I really like how that is all that’s required to play – no plastic pieces! In fact the game is 100% compostable and biodegradable as well as plastic free. Unlike some other games on the market the cards aren’t ‘greenwashed’ which means they aren’t covered in a plastic coating. So a very environmentally friendly game.
The aim of the game is very simple and easy to learn but very, very fun. Basically players take it in turns to draw two cards. Then everyone must try and find a matching pair of words on the two cards. The matching words will be the same colour to help and any two cards will always have a match. How the logistics of that work is beyond me but I do think it’s very clever! Once you’ve spotted the match you must sound out the matching words to win the cards. For example if you saw the word ‘fireworks’ on both cards you need to attempt to make the noise of a firework but not say the word! Unless the match is the title of the game, Uproar and that card is worth double points. The winner is whoever has the most cards at the end when the draw pile is depleted.
As you can see the concept is very simple so we only needed a brief look through the instructions before we started to play. It really is a lot of fun and hearing people’s attempts at some silly sounds is hilarious. Hearing their Dad pretend to be an angry cow certainly had our children giggling and my son’s attempt at a guitar solo was pretty impressive! Whilst others had us stumped – how do you sound out a Princess?
This is a wonderful game for all the family. It’s ideal for parties or family get togethers or even handy to pop in a bag to bring along anywhere with you. We are going to have a lot of fun getting all the family involved making silly sounds when they visit over Christmas. The game is very reasonably priced at only £9.99 which I think makes this an ideal stocking filler gift for older children.
