As I am always looking for new ideas for fun outdoors & games for the garden, I was really pleased to be offered the Hydroclash Elite set from Goliath Games to try out. Hydroclash is a water based game, so it would have been nice to have some warmer, sunnier weather to try it out! Nevertheless, when the package arrived with the postman one morning, we couldn’t wait to give it a go. The Hydroclash Elite box includes a catapult, two foam missiles, a target and a pair pf safety goggles. The catapult comes in two parts, the hand shield and the catapult itself, these two easily & simply click together to provide a steady base to pull back against. The two missiles are made from bright orange foam balls, which need to be soaked in water until they are as wet as they can get, you can then just fit them on the catapult with two rubbery clips, it’s very quick to do. The included target clips on to your opponent’s clothes with a clip top and bottom, the clips work better with thinner material such as a t shirt but will fit on most materials.

Once my eight year old had it set up he gave it a go, he found he needed quite a lot of strength to fire the missiles, but that as the rubber got more stretchy on the foam he could shoot it further. The target looks plain white at first glance but when you hit it with the missile and it gets wet, you see the score appearing, 10 points at the edges, 20 in the middle. This is a great addition to the product and reminded me of the magic painting I used to do whilst I was young, just adding water for the picture to appear. He attached the target to a few different things in the garden, tree branches, walls & his trampoline and gave it a good testing out firing up, down and around.

Unfortunately, without having a second set of target, catapult & missiles he got bored very quickly and gave up. If the pack came with two sets of everything so you could have a water fight with your opponent and add up scores I think Hydroclash Elite would suddenly become a whole lot more interesting to him. The concept of this game is excellent, an outdoor water battle with your friends, what’s not to like, but the package only been suitable for one player really lets it down. Looking at various on line shopping portals it looks like you can purchase a standard twin pack at a similar price to the single Elite pack so I would recommend that for families and friends, then they can play together instead of taking turns.

Hydroclash Elite is a potentially exciting new game, perfect for getting your children out in the garden and away from the screen, it just needs a few tweaks to make it a longer term game and therefore better value for money.
