Henry J Beans Manchester Review

On Friday 11th October Henry J Beans located in The Printworks, Manchester held a re-launch party. Myself and my partner went along to check it out.
We were greeted at the door by a friendly face who asked were we on the guest list, I told her yes and was given two wooden blocks that I was to take to the bar and give to bar staff in exchange for a drink! We made our way to the bar and joined the very large crowd waiting to be served. It took 15 minutes to get to our turn (it was a busy opening night). I asked the bartender for two vodka based cocktails to which he replied we are not doing vodka ones, I found this very strange but opted for a rum one instead as did my partner. They were very nice and presented well. We had been told beforehand we could have a couple of drinks so I had to go and find somebody who could help me. Sam, who had been the first point of contact wasn't around so a colleague gave me four more wooden bricks. We sampled a couple more cocktails, a Daiquiri and a Mojito which were both very tasty, although we did have a classic Margarita which arrived only half full in a glass – from my experience this isn't the norm. Again the bar was organised chaos.
I can't comment on the menu as we didn't sample any. It did say in the invite there were nibbles but I wasn't offered any nor did I see any. The other problem was the wet paint. I went to the toilet and admittedly there were signs everywhere warning you of it, but I still managed to get it on my jacket… not good!
Overall, I think maybe Henry J beans were not ready for this re-launch party, but having said that the clientele seemed to be enjoying the evening, the cocktails were great and the music was funky and fresh (if you like that kind of thing).
