Lee Nelson is a much in demand comedian at the moment especially after his exploits popping up with Sepp Blater and Kanye West lately and last night I went to see his Suited and Booted tour at The Lowry in Salford Quays, Manchester.
The theatre staff at the Lowry were very helpful and the theatre itself was very well looked after. It was very easy to get to on the tram and I had no problem in collecting my tickets. We got a drink before we went in and you could order drinks for the interval which is very handy for saving time queuing.
The show started about 15 minutes late because of traffic, but that didn’t dampen the atmosphere in the theatre. There was no support on for the show but I really don’t think he needed it. Nelson started with his own introduction which was as always hilarious.
Nelson wasted no time in interacting with the audience which was good fun as he immediately picked on a guy who looked like Doc Brown from back to the future, who was just as quickly in to the banter with Nelson. Then more talking to the audience to find out the age range in the crowd. Which in turn set off jokes with both age groups.
A few late stragglers came in blaming the traffic so Nelson as expected had something to say to them which went down very I with the rest of us.
Nelson wanted to find out where members of the audience had come from and had a few laughs with the individuals who shouted out.
There was a short interval giving us a chance to stretch our legs. After about 15 minutes Nelson came back on to another of his own introductions. Again it was very funny. He started talking to a family in the upper tiers about how they disciplined there child which was great as the father was very forthcoming with his answers.
He ended the show by bringing out a seat and inviting the audience to ask any questions. There was the obvious one of where’s Omelette who for those who don’t know was his sidekick on his television show. There was some good questions and Nelson replied very quickly with some very amusing answers. He then said goodnight and went off stage. A few people were getting up to leave when Nelson came back out for his encore and they probably wish they had stayed put because he was very quick in demanding where they was going with a little bit of bad language involved as there was throughout the show. A girl in the audience asked if she could have a selfie with him which he obliged but when she got close to him she said he was ugly so he fired one back saying she wasn’t all that either which got the audience in fits of laughter.
There wasn’t a lot of merchandise to choose from but what was there was pretty cool, there was the usual program along with a Lee Nelson Baseball Cap with his initials on that a lot of the younger people purchased, plus a few other things as well.
Above all I would definitely see Lee Nelson again he was one of the best comedians I have seen. Highly recommended.
