I was absolutely thrilled to be chosen to review T.Rextasy at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable as I loved Marc Bolan in the 70’s. T.Rextasy are the world’s only official tribute to Marc Bolan and is made up of Danielz (vocals & lead guitar), Neil Cross (Rhythm Guitar and B/V’s), David Ryder Prangley (Bass Guitar and B/V’s) and John Skelton (Drums).
We arrived at the theatre and parked up in the ample and free parking area. We took a short stroll to the theatre and went into the busy foyer where we picked up our tickets from a very friendly member of staff. The foyer was buzzing with lots of people of all ages. We went into the auditorium where it was filling up quite quickly in anticipation for the show. We were guided to our seats which gave us a brilliant view of the stage. At 7.30pm the curtain rose to rapturous applause and T-Rextasy started the show, there were 4 people on stage, a lead and bass guitarist, a drummer and of course the singer who was so much like the late Marc Bolan, the way he looked, dressed and sang.
They were all dressed in 70’s clothes which made it all look so real. By the third song they had got everybody up on their feet dancing, clapping and singing along as they played old favourites like ‘I Love to Boogie’, ’20th Century Boy’, ‘Jeepster’, ‘Telegram Sam’ and many, many more. They finished their first half to great applause and were welcomed back with the same enthusiasm.
There was great interaction with the audience as a lot of the people present were hardened T.Rex an T-Rextasy fans who had seen them before on their visit to the Queensway Hall in Dunstable. T-Rextasy reminded us of times and places when the songs were originally sung by the late Marc Bolan. It was a fantastic atmosphere in the auditorium, everybody was having a wonderful time.
I would give this show a five star rating and if you ever get the chance to go I am sure you would not be disappointed. A fabulous evening’s entertainment.
