Frankie & Benny’s Denton Review

Reviewed by Ann Durrell

Frankie & Benny’s Denton is located at the Crown Point Shopping Centre situated close by the town centre and just off the M67. We were visiting to sample their new menu with 83 new dishes and a change in the oil used to prepare the meals.

My partner and I arrived at around 7.30 and easily found a parking space. The restaurant is a relatively new build and there is plenty of outdoor seating which unfortunately due to the weather we were unable to take advantage of. When we arrived at the reception area we were greeted quickly and politely by a member of staff and shown immediately to our seats.

The theme of Frankie & Benny’s is a New York diner, there was plenty of seating and it was all very well presented and very clean. Music was set to a good level and comprised of blues, rock and roll and swing. It created a great atmosphere and we were tapping along throughout the meal.

We sat in a circular booth at the top of the restaurant and had a view into the open kitchen where we could watch the food being prepared, and the chefs working hard! It was a Tuesday night and the restaurant was not too busy. We were given menus and ordered our drinks. When the waitress came back with our drinks we ordered our starters and main meals.

For starters I chose chicken wings with Louisiana hot sauce and my partner the same but with BBQ sauce. The starters were served to us in a timely fashion in tin servers which reminded me of camp fire dishes, very kitsch. The wings were delicious, although they were covered in sauce the texture remained crispy. The hot sauce kicked some serious heat but not overly hot for the sake of it, my partner said that the BBQ sauce was the best he had ever tasted, he did although find them too rich when dunked in the sour cream. I thought the sour cream was a perfect accompaniment. We were also given hand wipes as eating them with a knife and fork would have been nigh on impossible.

When the waiter collected our dishes we were offered another drink which I thought was very attentive and needed after the heat of my wings. There was an acceptable pause until our mains were served, giving time for our starters to settle.

For Mains I chose Rigatoni Chicken Piccante, chicken, chorizo, rosemary, mushroom and white wine sauce and rigatoni pasta baked in the oven with mozzarella and a crunchy cheese crumb, my partner opted for the 8oz sirloin steak (well done) served with roasted tomato, flat mushroom, onion rings and a side of golden fries.

My pasta dish was very tasty and piping hot when it was served. There was just the right amount of meat, chicken was succulent, the chorizo was juicy, not greasy and the mozzarella nice and stringy. My partners steak was cooked just to his liking still a tiny bit pink in the middle but not medium. The chips were crispy and the batter the onion rings were in was slightly peppery, an excellent dish.

We were offered a dessert, the menu did look amazing, but we were both too full to have one. Next time we may forgo the starters in favour of desert. Whilst we were eating there were two birthdays and the staff brought over cakes and all sang happy birthday to the recipient. All of the staff were extremely pleasant and very attentive, our server for the majority of the night was called Elliot and we felt he gave us fantastic service, very smiley and always looking out to see if anyone at his tables needed anything. We were very happy, and very full after our visit and will be back, we have to try the desserts!
